17 Black taking on the 17 USA Division at the Northern Lights Qualifier. She defends her position well and has a quick release to her hitters. She does a nice job of remaining neutral with all other sets which freezes the defense. She can hold the middle and send it to the outside. This 17 Black squad from Milwaukee will be one who can make noise this weekend.

Laina is currently ranked as the 81st best overall prospect in the 2027 Class according to our Prep Dig Wisconsin State Rankings. She plays for Badger High School and also club for Milwaukee Sting volleyball program. Miss Kirsch put on a show in both the positional breakdowns and the team scrimmages as she showed awesome footwork and the ability to move the ball around to all locations. I was equally impressed with her amazing defense out of the right back zone. She keeps her vision focused on the hitter and has an uncanny ability to read the play well before it is established by the opposing team. This puts her in a great position to play the ball and keep it alive for her squad. She is also able to use those soft hands of hers to dig high balls that come to her head. With her super fast first step to the ball, there was no dig that got away from her. While moving very swiftly around the court, she tracked down everything that her team dug up and was in a perfect position to keep the set in system for her attackers. As a setter, her hands are very technically sound and this shows that she has attention to detail with her training. Her court coaches and I were thoroughly impressed with her work ethic and think she has a lot of potential. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award for this showcase.

This Class of 2027 is extremely deep for Milwaukee Sting. This 16 White team has athletes who are coming off a big 15s year and successful high school seasons. Laina Kirsch was a standout last season as a 15s at multiple Prep Dig Events. The 2027 setter has all the tools to get the ball to her attackers in favorable conditions. She will find the one on one match up on the pin and can run the middles off a quick tempo. They will be competing in the 16 Premier Red Division.

Laina is an impressive player who puts in the work. She improves every time I see her play and that comes from time in the gym and intentional work on her game. Laina is gritty as an athlete yet has great ball control as a setter. She is aggressive and has a clean and quick jump set. She is a player who I am excited to see continue to play over the course of her high school career.
