One of a pair of Yorktown kids mentioned today, Lauren’s ability to be a second coach on the floor as a defensive specialist makes her highly marketable in this author’s eyes. Already earning top honors in our showcases in the past calendar year, Lauren’s fast feet and calm platform make the great majority of her first touches accurate and in-system.

Delk comes from a quality program in the Hoosier State and it showed throughout the two hours. Delk consistently talked calling for balls and encouraging the other participants in the event. She steps to balls then makes the simple passes to help her teams get in a good rhythm.

Of COURSE there should be a Yorktown kid on this list, and Lauren is one of the best. Those Tigers are known for their serve receive prowess, and Lauren is no exception. Our MVP of the Freshman Showcase this past July, Lauren is a vocal and physical leader on the court, and is more than capable of working with any combination of players, regardless of skill. Calm in her platform and active with her feet, Lauren’s Munciana training shines through in her ball control, and should be an excellent libero for years to come.

From the before the showcase started to the end of the entire two-plus hours, Lauren was a vocal leader with every group she played with. Her confidence and positivity with every contact she made proved her solid sporting behavior, and her relentless, never-failing attitude bled into her skills as a passer and defender. On a contact-by-contact perspective, rarely were mistakes made, and if there was an error, she stayed positive and engaged in that play and future plays to ensure that she was locked in from that point forward. It was easy to pick Lauren for this honor, but certainly not easy for her to earn such a prestigious honor. Her constant and consistent work throughout the Freshman Showcase set her apart from every other player in attendance, making her the obvious choice for the Avoli Committed Athlete award.

Speaking of things looking simple, Lauren’s immediate presence on the court simplified play for everyone else around her. Reliable, consistent and always vocal, her floor-leader mentality carried her drill-mates and teammates to be better just because of her presence. I love the active feet and the calm platform, as that’s what carried the day with Miss Delk. I’m not surprised that she’s from Yorktown—looks like the future is bright in the passing department once again for the Tigers.

From the first contact of the showcase, Lauren was active, vocally and physically, and controlled the show on her court on every ball, without fail. Her constant encouragement, direction of the other passers and willingness to do the dirty work on every play allowed her to stand out as one of the best in attendance. I cannot stress enough how important it is for showcase attendees to “buy in” to what’s being done—and Lauren was the chief example of what happens when you do so. I expect mid-June of 2027 to be very kind to Lauren, as she’s yet another of a long line of exceptional defenders to come out of Yorktown High School.
