The smallest of the setters in today’s article, Landree’s ability to run a 5-1 in one of the best high school programs in the state is what sets her apart. Quick like a DS and smarter than most, Miss Johnson is an easy plug-and-play 6-2 setter for a larger school and a 5-1 setter for a smaller program at the next level. That quickness of hers shows out in out-of-system play; getting to the ball and putting up something better than hittable is her calling card, and most of the time, the set stays in-tempo like an in-system set would be.

Of the five setters listed here, none ran the offense for a top-five 4A program like Landree. Her ability to continue Yorktown’s success despite graduation and injury only furthers her appeal to recruiters. Yes, she’s small. But that didn’t seem to stop the undersized Tigers from making it to the state semifinal this past fall, and Landree was the director of the offense the whole way. She can easily fit in as a three-rotation setter for anyone running a 6-2 or be a 5-1 setter for a smaller school looking for accuracy, solid defense and location accuracy.

As a last-minute replacement setter for the fall, it was this author’s estimation that Yorktown would take a step back due to graduation and growing pains. This is one of the rare times I actually LIKE being wrong, as Landree carried the offense of the 4A Tigers to a top-five finish this fall. She showed all of us on Saturday that the ladies in green will be a factor in all of the 4A title runs for the foreseeable future.

The shortest of the three setters listed today, Landree’s skill set is off the charts. Yorktown’s setter in the 5-1 was a main reason for the Tigers’ continued success despite graduation and size. It is this author’s opinion that Landree should have received All-State honors from the IHSVCA for not only her skill set but the ability to keep the Tigers in the top five of 4A all season long. I know of no other setter, freshman or otherwise, that was more responsible for a teams’ success in their first year on the job. I look forward to watching her work with Saturday’s hitters, as she’ll really be able to show out.

The starting setter for top-five Yorktown has control of the offense for the forseeable future. Her 1292 assists on the season is amazing—-even moreso is the possibility of hitting the 5k mark by the end of her high school career, which is completely reasonable at the current rate. Munciana (and whatever school recruits her) are in good hands, literally, with Landree.

Another Yorktown freshman, another epic performance. The undersized and overachieving setter finished with the most assists of any setter for the day—-with 56 in the semifinal against Floyd Central and 52 in the final against Plainfield. She’s got three more seasons to look forward to, and she’s only going to get better.
