Prep Dig scouts have noted that Alaina Sloan Alaina Sloan 5'10" | S Indianapolis Cathedral | 2029 State IN is seeing varsity playing time at Cathedral, one of the premier programs in Indiana, and that her length and stride allow her to cover ground and deliver the ball at a high release point with deception across all tempos. At 5’10”, she is the tallest of the setters in this showcase group, and that dimension is not lost on the college coaches who will be watching from the stands at the Indiana Convention Center. Cathedral reached the 3A Semistate round in 2024 as one of the state’s top programs, giving Sloan a competitive home environment that demands execution every time she steps on the floor. Playing in front of a national audience at a showcase hosted in her own backyard should only add to the intrigue for staffs who have been waiting for a chance to see her in open competition for the first time. I am very intrigued to see her in action and will be watching very closely.  You should also. 

Sloan puts great touches on her sets as the result of a lot of repetitions, as she noted. Sloan especially executed the ones. Sloan executes a variety of short and long sets, including back sets. Sloan is also valuable on defense for 15O Gold. Sloan sets up well behind blocks and makes the simple passes. Sloan goes all out trying to track down as many balls as possible. She makes a number of two to three-point passes.

Already seeing some varsity playing time with one of the best programs in the state, Alaina is the tallest setter listed here, with length for days. Her ability to take long strides to get to wherever the ball is passed sets her apart from some of the shorter setters on this list. Her long arms allow her to take the ball high, be deceptive, and locate the ball perfectly for her hitters, regardless of tempo or location. I’m hoping to catch her play this season, as this will be the first time I can see her with her own age level in open competition.

With the fall in the rearview for the Fighting Irish, Alaina will use the entirety of this spring to train her way to lead Cathedral into championship-winning status next fall. Her length is her strength, as she uses the entirety of her 5’9” frame to go get tight passes, receive first contacts with high hands and locate the ball exceptionally well for her hitters.

With a full-go and no-quit attitude, Miss Sloan is an easy choice for this article. Her high hands, using all of her length, make for a well-trained setter. Add her impeccable footwork to the mold and her setting skill set is complete. She might have to take her time in rising the ranks of setters at Cathedral, but knowing that she’s a Munciana kid, her rising stock should be quicker than the average setter in this class.
