About Layla

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My gameplay style is fast-paced and energetic. I take a quick approach, stay ready at all times, and focus on reacting quickly and making plays.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I try to keep a calm mind and stay focused on what’s in front of me. My previous Jiu-Jitsu experience has helped me learn how to stay composed under pressure and keep thinking clearly. It also taught me how to keep pushing even after failures. It's something I’m continuing to improve every day. Personality-wise, I’m naturally calm. I enjoy having fun with teammates, but I can also be introverted.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Yes, I’m involved in several clubs and organizations at my school, including HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), Student Voice, and the Latin Student Union. I also volunteer often with our local recreation center and different organizations during the summer. In addition, I help out with local elementary schools whenever I can. I enjoy being involved in my community and supporting other

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Through my involvement in clubs and community service, I’ve developed strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. By being part of Student Voice, I help represent students at city and county meetings, giving a voice to students who are facing challenges. This has taught me how to work with local leaders, teachers, and other students to find solutions together.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I’ve been fortunate not to face any major life challenges. However, learning a new sport like volleyball has been a challenge for me. Adjusting to the speed of the game and competing with higher-level athletes pushed me out of my comfort zone. It required a lot of effort, patience, and determination to keep improving and work toward their level. It’s been challenging, but I’ve leveled up!

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college that will give me the opportunity to showcase my love for volleyball while continuing to grow as both an athlete and a person. I also want a school that will support my passion for medicine and help prepare me for my future career. My ultimate goal is to work in sports medicine, so I’m looking for a college that will challenge me academically while allowing me to play VB!
