The Mt. Spokane Wildcats used Ama in any and every way possible this season. Swings from the pins, a modified 5-1, putting up her big block and attacking as a setter. It unlocked her fully as a player, and after a few injuries slowed her in prior seasons, she reestablished herself as the top setter in the class. Her physical abilities combined with a great feel and knowledge of the game make she a very good setter. Her ability to accurately dish sets pin to pin from almost anywhere on the court sets her apart.

Ama is one heck of a volleyball player, and was really more than just a setter for the Wildcats this season. She is a setter primarily, and if not the best in the state right in the mix, but she did so much more than that. She moved to the right on a regular rotation to take big swings, played great technical and instinctive defense, (tips are not welcome here) has great strength on the block and served long/short with tremendous precision and keen awareness. Truly its the setting that’s so sweet though, while appearing seemingly effortless. The Mt Spokane attackers benefited immensely from her athleticism, skill, location, and ability to send a hittable ball from virtually anywhere on the court to any player. Pins Jillian Davis and Jordyn Williams will be leaned upon next season, and both had very productive matches at the SunDome. Ama moves on to Chaminade next season, ending a run of Ama’s at Mt Spokane that started in 2016 with sister Malina.

Ama has been healthy all season, and Mt. Spokane has been able to develop younger players and different lineups knowing that she is always there to handle any bumps in the road. She is a setter, but at right around six feet, and with great touch and power as a hitter, she can fill in the gap anywhere the Wildcats need it. They find a way to get the senior a few critical swings each match, letting her close out opponents in crunch time. Fellow senior Maggie Degenhart has been terrific, playing six rotations outside and delivering big kill numbers for Mt Spokane. The team is searching for a return to the state title match after a 5th place finish last season.
