About Makenzie

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

As a Middle Blocker, I take my role as an aggressive defender and leader on the court seriously. I am passionate about putting in the work off the court to have a solid presence during matches. With my agility, strong vertical jump, and speed I am quick to the swing block and love defending the net. I have developed attack moves that allow me to hit a range of balls and thrive in fast offenses.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My coaches say I have a high level of volleyball IQ. I adjust to systems that attempt to defend me and use the off-timing hits to place tips or hits where the opposing team isn’t. I am a strong leader and constant communicator on the court, motivating my teammates and driving the positive momentum every game needs.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Attending Loyola Academy, the largest Jesuit High School in the nation, has offered me opportunities to give back through service to others in my community. I am actively involved in the Foundation Fighting Blindness. My older sister is legally blind and this organization educates people about low vision. They also raise money through events for medical research to cure blindness.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

For the past 2 years I have also supported my club by coaching short seasons for younger players that are interested in volleyball. These seasons allow me to teach others the things I have learned about volleyball, interact with parents, and talk to younger people about mental toughness.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college who team acts like a family. When they play on the court together it looks like they are always having fun. I would also like a coaching staff who is pushing me to the next level non stop. I am also looking for a college with a great Medical program so I can become an Orthodontist.

Nash is so fast off the ground, and I love her speedy footwork at the net. Her arm is just as fast as her feet, and she can light a fire for her team with one mighty swing. Nash the Flash would be my nickname for her because her armswing is SO fast! She goes hard after the edges of the court, and if you blink, you will miss it.
