Kayliyah Deshields Kayliyah Deshields 6'1" | MB/OH Crown Point | 2027 State IN leads with intensity and physicality. She attacks first tempo with force and isn’t afraid to challenge the block head-on. At the net, she brings a hard close and looks to shut down swings rather than just slow them. Her leadership is emotional and competitive—she raises the urgency of every rally and sets a tone that teammates match. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Big and physical, Kayliyah is a strong M2 that hammers the ball through her hitting zone with a whip of any arm. It’s not often you see a middle do that in this age group, yet here we are. She can also take over a match by the space she eats up on the block, making attacking against her quite difficult. Her long arms and broad shoulders make her look bigger than her 6’1″ frame might otherwise indicate, making her all the more recruitable for the next level.

Big and physical in the middle, Miss Deshields is an intimidating presence for Ignite 16 Elite. She is a next-level M2 from up north, where there aren’t too many that can do what she can in this class. Her size and strength overpower most middles in this class from her area, and her ability to put pace on the ball from the middle is one of her many redeeming qualities when she plays. I’m also a fan of her transitional footwork. Most kids this size in this class look to lumber along and hopefully make themselves ready to hit occasionally. Kayliyah is seemingly always ready to hit, and does so quickly.

Her recent attendance at our Top 250 Expo showed us everything we needed to know. Quiet and unassuming, Miss Deshields takes up space on the block and has an intimidating nature about her on defense. As an attacker, her attack touch is quite high, making smaller blocks almost look obsolete in comparison. Playing bigger than her 6’1″ frame, Ignite has a steal of a “big”, and it will only be a matter of time before she puts it all together.

Kayliyah is another middle with an intimidating presence at the net, both when she blocks and when she attacks. She brings a quiet confidence to the court which I actually really love in MBs; there is nothing quite like a silent assassin at the net! At 6’1″ with a long reach, Deshields was able to hit not just around the block, but over it as well. She is a nuisance for other middles to hit around because of how much space she takes up at the net when blocking and because of how focused she is on every point. I am excited to see how she blossoms as she works on improving her foot speed in transition and spacing with the setter on attacks – Kayliyah is going to be a major asset for Ignite VBC this club season.
