About Mercer

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Versatile athlete who started as a DS, moved to pin hitter as I grew and then transitioned to setter this past season. Currently playing as a setter across the back row and right side across the front.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I think my teammates and coaches would tell you I'm a selfless, positive person by nature, who others enjoy being around and thus capable of lifting my teammates up around me.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I'm an honor roll student at Bishop Groman High School who was recognized as freshman student of the month last year. I'm also a member of the Bright Young Girl organization, which is a student driven 501c3, with the goal of providing underprivileged girls in the Las Vegas area, free feminine hygiene products.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed a lot of skills through the sport of volleyball but the ones that stand out the most would be self-confidence, hard work ethic and resilience.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I tore my ACL halfway through my 15u season and wasn't sure I would keep playing after sitting out a year. My parents encouraged me to stay involved with my team and as a result, I never missed a practice or tournament and 9 months later was back on the floor with my friends, having learned a very valuable lesson about overcoming adversity.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a college where I can get a quality education and have fun enjoying the outdoors. I enjoy both the beach and the mountains so something close to one or the other would be ideal.
