Expert Analysis
Jesse Etter | Prep Dig Scout
Nelson is quick off the floor and moves well when playing the back row and off-block defense. The 2027 outside is tough to tip on and has kept improving, playing a full-time six-rotation OH role for Dakine. Nelson has the verticality to adjust to sets on the outside, roll and chip to open spots in the defense, or swing away when there is a gap in the block. Her emergence as a consistent passer in serve-receive has helped propel her Dakine team forward, and she contributes an accurate jump float from the service line that is hard for teams to handle.

Nelson is on the outside for Dakine, and her quickness and verticality are tough for blockers. She can find high hands or the edges of the block, and defenders have to keep their hands up when she runs a fast-tempo attack. Nelson was an emotional spark plug for Dakine; she is a competitor, and her intensity and fire were crucial in their run to the finals.

Nelson is a high-flyer with serious skills. She has been excellent playing on the outside for Dakine during the club season. Her confidence is easy to see—she cuts off the seam defensively and in serve receive, keeping Dakine setters on time and out of the net. Nelson dominates overpasses and tight sets as a blocker; she is quick off the floor and plays the ball decisively with two hands.

Nelson is a classic undersized middle who gets in done with her hard work and amazing quick lift off the floor. Nelson is a terror on any joust or 50/50 ball, she up and playing ot before most opposing players are on the way up at all. Her excellent movement translates to her speed closing the block as well, she has the footwork and vertical to help her pins close down the seam. As an attacker she does a nice job of finding an angle on her attack approach, giving her a natural swing path away from the block. Nelson can also go up, hang, and drop a sweet tip to score to any empty void on the court.
