, committed to USF, steps into her senior year controlling the net. She reads the setter, closes quickly, and presses over to take away line and seam, forcing high, predictable swings. I see her re-close and stay active through extended rallies. Offensively, she’s explosive in transition and available on first tempo, which holds the middle and opens the offense. Her presence and physicality set the standard for the group at the net. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

took it back at the net. Middles are built to control tempo, and Payton did exactly that. She sealed the line with disciplined hands, pressed over the tape with authority, and erased high-contact swings from opposing pins. Her block timing on final day was elite β reading the setter’s release, closing quickly, and taking away space before hitters could tool the seam. A sequence of back-to-back shutdowns from first Payton completely flipped the energy in the gym.
Offensively, Payton wasn’t just available β she was assertive. Running tempo in front of the setter, she attacked the seam with force and finished high hands when the block committed. Her ability to convert defensive stops into immediate transition points changed the flow of entire rotations. Payton owned the net, and when she elevated, so did her team. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

Gravelle is not only versatile in the front row but the back row as well. I got to see her play both wing defensive positions this fall which isn’t something you normally see from a middle. I think with the right pieces around her should could have a breakout club season. She hits a gnarly slide but also takes a great approach from either pin or out of the middle. Gravelle has a physical presence that will put her among some top 16’s talent.

Gravelle started out on fire and was almost impossible to stop.Β She knows how to run a really dynamic slide route that makes defenders nervous.Β Even with WDC taking a pair of losses she hit impressive numbers because she is so effective.Β In the quarterfinal, the freshman recorded 19 kills while hitting a .385.Β In the consolation semifinal against Annandale, Gravelle tallied 20 kills and added 3 aces.Β She’s also a very effective blocker, recording 5 blocks in their 2 matches.
