Piper Coady makes a statement when she is on the court and it goes without saying that she has passion for this game. She has earned repeated invitations to the NTDP, from Florida to Colorado Springs. After the summer training series heading into her sophomore season, Piper said it gave her a variety of serves she could choose from depending on the situation. Her sharp-angle attack is already a shot opposing defenses have to plan for.

This season, her growth has been in her volleyball IQ.

“I think the part of my game that has grown the most since last high school season has been my confidence and consistency. The biggest change for me has been becoming more intentional with every rep and using each one as an opportunity to learn and improve.”

That habit is what separates good outsides from trusted ones. Intentional reps build the kind of consistency coaches can count on in the fifth set. Piper sees that as her job at Newport Harbor this fall.

“I think my role at Newport Harbor this fall is being someone my team can depend on in hard moments and tight situations, rather than shying away from the challenge. I’m most proud of how my team has continued to build each other up this season and work through the hard battles together.”

She plays with the mindset of a player who wants the ball when the score is tight, and she gives the credit to her teammates. Those are two traits that travel.

“Indiana felt like the right fit for me because of the strong culture and community. The coaches and everyone surrounding the program are people who I know will support me and push me to be the best version of myself, both on and off the court. It felt like home from the first time I visited, and I knew it was somewhere I could see myself growing as a player and person.”

Indiana is getting an outside who has been tested at the national level, embraces pressure, and is still getting better.

Despite being one the youngest players on the team for the past couple season on Newport Harbor, Coady, an Indiana commit, has really upped her game when needed to. Tall and lean, she uses her length well, pressing over with purpose on the block and giving her back row a clean read. On offense, she attacks with a lightning-quick arm swing that creates problems for defenders. Piper Coady Piper Coady 6'2" | OH Newport Harbor | 2028 State #21 Nation CA , a 2028 outside hitter from Tstreet 16-Bailey, left NTDP with a more versatile serving game. “A specific skill that was improved during NTDP was having a variety of serves that can be used depending on the situation,” she said.

The pillar of Team had the biggest impact on Piper. “It really shows how important it is to come together as a team and play the game for more than just yourself,” she explained.

She found inspiration in a libero whose approach stood out throughout the training series. “She always seemed to grow from her mistakes instead of hanging on to them,” Piper shared. “She also was really motivating to her teammates no matter how the game is going. I truly admire the way she plays and will do my best to learn from her qualities.”

Among the coaches, Christa Branson from Southern Methodist University made the strongest impression. “She always encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and try new skills,” Piper said.
