Axness has a ton of athleticism that she utilizes to get to passes that other setters just can’t touch. She has a smooth, clean release on the ball and she keeps her hands high and quick to make some really great offensive selections in play. Axness is a solid defender and makes the opponent pay for thinking that attacking the setter is a good idea.

performed well for Champlin Park at the Lakeville North Backman Invite.
Axness posted 30 set assists in a loss to East Ridge, and she posted 23 or more set assists in wins against Marshall, Eagan, and Caledonia. She also had 21 set assists against Prior Lake. Defensively, Axness posted five digs in three of the Rebels’ five matches, and she had two blocks along the way.
Against Marshall, Axness showed excellent flexibility and scrappiness as she went for digs. She uses her height, 5-foot-11, and her length well in reaching for the ball.

Axness was a new addition to Schmidt and Ball’s club team this year. I caught them playing at a few different venues throughout the season and one thing I really enjoyed was that she appeared to be a total sponge. Every play she was gaining experience and knowledge. Now I know a lot of players that will pick up the knowledge but Axness is a fierce competitor and you will often see her turn around and immediately apply what she has learned. She is not the biggest prospect but her drive and gritty will to win make her play much bigger than you might expect.

Axness is one you have to watch out for because she moves the ball well and knows when to call her own number. She has a lot of great intangibles that you want in a setter including a dynamic sense of of leadership. Axness moves the ball quickly and exposes weaknesses on the other side of the net.
