If you are a part of the opposing fan base of Gilk you may not want to chant that she is over rated. First of all its rude because the player themself didn’t decide to pull so much attention because they are really good. They just worked hard doing something they love. But the other reason is that you just get the beast worked up and she will respond with a resounding kill that almost puts a dent in the floor. And just to get her point across she will follow that with an ace just to make sure she got her point across.

Gilk is a one-of-a-kind recruit. She has great ball control and is an offensive weapon. Gilk plays with maturity and experience having played with the 2023 USAV U19 National Team. This Minnesota commit plays with Minnesota Select’s 18-1 squad after earning Class AAA All-State honors.

Speaking of the Minnesota recruiting Class of 2025, we have to talk about Carly Gilk. Gilk is a 6’2 left handed right side where she has flashes of former Purdue All American and Olympian Annie Drews. She can pass, serve receive, and be a scoring threat in all six rotations. On the right side she has the physicality to terminate and block against high level competition. She is playing an age level up on the MN Select 18-1 team where they have already grabbed an 18 Open bid.

Gilk and a high powered Champlin Park crew had the unfortune of being in the same section with Wayzata. While they couldn’t quite make in out of the section, their season was still something to be proud on. Gilk, a Minnesota commit, is a 6 rotation wrecking ball and will be a force going into her senior season.

had a big showing at the at the Lakeville North Bachman Invite.
Gilk helped the Rebels go 4-1 in tournament action with wins over Marshall, Eagan, Caledonia, and Prior Lake. The Rebels’ only loss came against East Ridge, 2-1.
She posted her highest kill total of the weekend, 15, against Eagan in a 2-0 sweep. Gilk also had 13 kills against East Ridge, 12 kills against Marshall, 11 kills against Prior Lake, and 10 kills against Caledonia.
The 6-foot-2 junior has a tremendous jump on the attack, and she fires the ball with power on her kill attempts. Gilk makes effective use of her athleticism and size as a force around the net.

. Gilk is just built like an elite athlete and she has really exploded this past year. In 2022 she earned honors such as being named to the AVCA Phenom Watchlist and Class AAAA All-State Team. Gilk took on the MN Select 16-1 squad this past club season and picked up a 2023 JVA Watchlist mention. This summer she committed to play for Minnesota and was invited to the USAV Spring NDTP. She gained valuable experience as an alternate for the U.S. U19 FIVB World Champion team. Gilk has a high ceiling and I’m looking forward to see more growth the next couple years.

Gilk is a unique player in that she is a six rotation right side that coaches never want to see leave the floor. She is solid in serve receive and she reads the play to get herself in a position to be waiting for the ball to cross the net. Gilk is built to last and she is strong and physical at the net as well. She moves well defensively and offensively making herself an invaluable asset to any team.
