About Sarah-jane
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
As a libero, I bring loud, energetic communication and constant leadership on the court. I read hitters and the flow of the game to anticipate plays, stay disciplined in serve-receive and defense, and adjust quickly. I take corrective criticism well and use it to improve my positioning, decision-making, and overall consistency for my team.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I’m a funny, talkative, and positive teammate with great sportsmanship, and I always try to keep a smile on my face. I love dancing on the court to lift the team’s energy and keep the mood high, but I know when it’s time to lock in and focus. I take responsibility in key moments, work hard, and do whatever is needed whenever it’s needed for the team.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I work two jobs while balancing school and athletics, including Big City Pizza and LongHorn Steakhouse. I am an FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) leader and have earned the A–B Honor Roll for three consecutive years.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Through athletics, academics, and work, I’ve developed strong responsibility and time-management skills while balancing multiple commitments. I’ve grown as a leader both on and off the court, learned the importance of teamwork, and built mental toughness by pushing through challenges and rough patches while maintaining a positive attitude and focus on my goals.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
After moving from Georgia to Kentucky after my freshman year, I faced major challenges starting over. I struggled with confidence, fitting in, and dealing with bullying and judgment, both socially and in volleyball. Even after earning my spot, I faced criticism from others. I’m still working through it, but through faith and growing self-confidence, I continue to push forward and grow stronger.
What type of college are you looking for?
I’m looking for a college that will challenge me both on and off the court, where I can grow as a player and as a person. I want a program that values hard work, teamwork, and development, with coaches who push me to reach my full potential and teammates who inspire me to be better every day. I’m drawn to schools with a supportive environment that encourages growth, and strong academics.
