About Sophia
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
Aggressive but controlled on the court. I know how to make smart decisions in tough circumstances. I have a “next point” mentality because I don’t believe what happened in the past should effect your performance in the future; whether that is a new point, a new game, or a new season.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I love bringing my personality on the court and I understand that having fun and being serious can coexist while playing. I believe that anything is achievable if you put your mind towards it, which is why over the past 2 years I have dedicated my life to improving my self as a player and as a person. I am an undersized hitter, but I don’t let my size determine the impact I have on my team.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
Not currently, but I am looking to change that in the future.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Volleyball has shown me how to work towards things I truly want such as my goals and aspirations in life. It has taught me worth ethic and has helped me gain many of my closest friends that I still have to this day. It also has taught me that eventually hard work and consistency beats genetics and privilege.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
Because I started much later than many of the girls who play at my level, it has been hard for me to catch up to girls that have played for much longer than me. Even though that might be a disadvantage, it has never once stopped me from achieving my goals. I also am an undersized hitter, which means I have to work a lot hard to close the gap between me and 6 foot plus players.
What type of college are you looking for?
When I look for colleges I only look for three things: if they compete at the D1 level, which has been my goal ever since I started, if they known for their academics and have strong programs for what I am interested in, and have a good history of coaches that inspire athletes to be the best players they can be.
