Stella is still only a sophomore, but Blessed Trinity is already trusting her with significant offensive responsibility. The 6-foot-1 outside currently leads the Titans in kills per set after gaining extensive varsity experience as a freshman.
Her development makes this matchup particularly interesting. Pope has enough size and defensive discipline to make obvious attacking choices difficult. Stella’s next level is learning to stay dangerous when power is not the easiest answer. High hands, changing speeds, attacking deep corners and creating a manageable swing from off the net are the tools that allow a young pin to keep scoring as the block improves.
Her intangible positive is confidence. Receiving this much responsibility this early forces an athlete to learn how to recover quickly. One blocked swing cannot become three tentative ones. While her offensive potential is evident, her ability to contribute beyond attacking gives her the opportunity to become a true six-rotation player.
