The senior from Kentridge High School played much of her career at the Outside spot but has always been a stand-out defender and high-quality passer in serve recieve. Caoili plays with strength and excellent hands; if she can get to a ball, she can pop it up from a challenging position to keep it alive. There is still room for her to improve with a full-time defensive role; Caoili should continue to develop as she dials in a single position at the next level.

The 2025 prospect from Kentridge gets to swing as well but always shines as a defender. Caoili has the strength to take any ball overhead with her hands and easily can stick out one hand and pop up a dig off an opponent’s swing. She has played a bunch of volleyball, and it shows in her ability to read the game and be in the right place to make a terrific defensive play. Add in her quick reactions, strength, and ability to step in and set a ball or hit it, and you have one excellent overall volleyball player.

From Isabelle: “Vanessa has played primarily DS for us this season. She will come in and hit on the outside, too. She is smart and reads the game like a book, which helps her score against tall blockers and dig up everything. She is an ace on the beach and sees the next play almost before it happens. Her serve is super tough, and she plays defense with a lot of heart.”

Matched up against A4 Volley, Caoili showed off her skilled all-around game. As an outside hitter with excellent hands and a feel for the game, she always handles the ball cleanly in scramble situations. Although undersized at the pin, she put down an overpass strongly and followed that up with hard swings off the net and out of system. A4 tried Caoili early in serve receive, she was able to deliver the ball on target and A4 moved on to other players. Later on in the match, she started to find the blocker’s hands, tooling several attempts for kills.

Caoili is a talented all-around athlete, excellent on the sand, and experienced as a high-level gymnast as well. That all adds up to make a pretty great volleyball player and an exceptional defender. It’s difficult to get a ball down in front of her, she easily reads attackers and can sprawl out to make a diving save when it’s needed. She is physically strong and knows how to angle her platform in serve receive, keeping her setter and attackers in rhythm.
