Carney, a setter for Moorhead High School, heads into her senior season with high expectations.
“I am very excited about the upcoming season,” said Carney. “It is crazy that it is already my senior year. I was pretty nervous about the season starting about a week ago but now that it has gotten closer I just have that feeling of wanting to start and just get after it.”
Carney, one of the top setters in the state, is hoping to play volleyball in college and said there has been some interest thus far.
“I am hoping to play volleyball in college,” Carney said.. “I have had a couple of coaches talk to me here and there and I am hoping that I will have some more come around. I am just trying to keep an open mind about it and just keep plugging through.”
The Spuds head into the season as a top-10 type team and they have the talent to get back to the state tournament. Carney, the team’s most accomplished returner, is excited for the challenge.
“The expectations of Moorhead this year is to make it to state again,” said Carney. “Our team last year was very good, and also the year before that so It will be a challenge to live up to those seasons but I think this year’s team is ready to take on that challenge. But actually make some noise down there and win that first game and challenge some teams down there and get Moorhead’s name out there.
“My individual goals has my coach would say, ‘be the face your team needs you to be’ and has a veteran player on the court and a big leader, plus being a setter I really need to keep my team up in tough situations. My biggest goal is just to go out with a bang. Playing all four years and having completely different outcomes of each season I want my last one to be the most successful and have the most impact. I want to be able to leave Moorhead on a good note.”
