Hot Starts: 2029s Making Their Presence Known on the Prep Court

Whether they are putting up big stats, running an offense, or simply finding ways to make an impact when their team needs it, these young players have come out ready to compete. What makes it even more impressive is that they still have plenty of high school volleyball ahead of them. Just five matches into the season, the young setter has already piled up a whopping 180 assists, an impressive number that immediately caught my attention. But Miller is far from a one-dimensional player. She can attack, get up and block, and is steady defensively, coming up with big digs when her team needs them. She impacts the game in several different ways while still doing a great job running the offense. She pairs a quick, powerful arm with excellent timing that allows her to take aggressive swings in a variety of situations. Whether she is attacking an out of system ball or tracking the set across her shoulder on the right pin, Janich does a great job getting herself in position to unload. When she connects, she puts plenty of power behind the ball and can deliver a heavy shot that is tough for defenders to dig. The numbers showcase that also. It doesn't take long watching her to see just how dynamic she is. She can run the offense and make good decisions with the ball, but she can also step into an attacking role and terminate repeatedly from the pin. That versatility makes her a lot of fun to watch. The high school season is barely over a week old, and Voss has already racked up an impressive 65 kills. What really stands out is the finesse she plays with. Yes, she can unload and put down the big kill, but she does a great job reading the block and recognizing when that isn't the best option. Instead of forcing a swing, Barlow will mix in crafty tips, rolls, and off speed shots that find open court and leave defenses scrambling. She can take big swings and bring the heat, but what really makes her effective is her ability to adjust to the ball and make good choices. She isn't just swinging away every time. Koch knows when to mix in a tip, roll, or push to open court and does a nice job adjusting to the set that is given to her. I watched her quite a bit during the club season, partly because I love watching lefty setters and all the crafty things they can do, but also because she is just a fun player to watch. She brings crazy energy to the court, knows how to fire up her teammates, and plays with the kind of personality that makes volleyball fun. Rivero hasn't slowed down since the club season ended either. She has been racking up assists left and right while also proving to be one of the more offensive setters around. She isn't afraid to attack when the opportunity is there, making her another weapon opposing defenses have to account for.
