This is the fifth article in the series The Volleyball Interview, highlighting influential high school Nebraska volleyball players of all ages and levels to get to know them on and off the court on deeper level.
Sami Clarkson is a junior at Omaha Concordia High School. She has 799 set assists so far this season and will be playing volleyball at the University of Nebraska Omaha when she graduates. Sami is also ranked 5th in the Prep Dig Nebraska Class of 2019 player rankings. Here is my interview with Sami:
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
“A pre-game ritual I have is to jam to some pump-up songs with my teammates right before we play.”
What are your nicknames on the team?
“I do not have any nicknames other than Sam or Sami Sue.”
What is your favorite pre-game meal?
“My favorite pre-game meal is a salami and pepperoni sandwich, an apple, green peppers, and gluten free pretzels.”
What is your go-to drink when competing?
“My go-to drink when competing is plain water, but after competing I like to drink glacier freeze G2.”
What is your favorite warm up song?
“My favorite warm-up song is either The Greatest by Sia or Every Time We Touch by Cascada.”
What is your go-to game day outfit?
“Since I go to a private school, my game day outfit is our uniform school skirt and our half-zip warm-up shirt.”
What is your favorite team to play and why?
“My favorite team to play is our highest ranked opponent. The hardest games are always the best ones.”
What is your favorite gym to play in and why?
“My favorite gym to play in is the home court of our highest ranked opponent because it is always intense playing against a tough team with a rowdy crowd.”
What is your favorite moment in your high school volleyball career?
“My favorite moment in my high school volleyball career was hands down winning state. After all the work of the season, winning in the Devaney with my teammates is an indescribable feeling.”
What is your most embarrassing moment in your volleyball career?
“My most embarrassing moment in my volleyball career was missing my serve on match point in the state championship game last year.”
What is your favorite off the court activity and why?
“My favorite off the court activity is spending time with my friends and family.”
What activities are you involved in at school?
“The activities that I am involved in at my school are varsity volleyball, varsity swimming, student ambassadors, and National Honor Society.”
