A couple weeks before the official start of her freshman season, Lincoln North Star’s Bekka Allick became the first known member of the Nebraska 2022 recruiting class when she committed to the Huskers Tuesday night. Allick is 6’3 and has primarily been used as a middle but could also develop into a pin hitter in the next few years.
Allick, who played on the VCNebraska 14 Elite team this summer, becomes the second Nebraska high school player to commit to the Huskers this summer. Elkhorn South’s Rylee Gray picked Nebraska over Stanford earlier this month.
Despite new rules being put in place this summer by the NCAA to try and curb athletes from making college pledges so early in their career, Allick has shown she’s among the top players in her age division in the nation over the course of the summer. She attended the Nebraska “Dream Team” Camp earlier this month and was routinely giving future Huskers such as Riley Zuhn, Made Kubik and Lindsay Krause troubles with her massive block and leaping ability. Following the camp, there was little doubt Allick would have an offer coming her way.
Ironically, Allick was at the Creighton Academy Camp on Monday and Tuesday of this week and was equally as dominant during drills and competition there, also leaving little doubt that she would have a Bluejay offer. However, just a handful of hours after the Creighton camp concluded, word got out that Allick had committed to Nebraska.
“It just seemed like the right time for me,” Allick told the Lincoln Journal Star. “It was a very big decision but I didn’t want to wait any longer and overthink it anymore. As soon as I got to camp here and stepped foot in the gym, I knew it was the right place for me. The coaches, the fans, the girls, it couldn’t have been a better fit for me.”
By committing to the Huskers prior to starting high school, Allick joins Amber and Kadie Rolfzen and Krause as other in-state players to do so. In total there will be six future Huskers playing high school volleyball in Nebraska this fall. The list is below:
Fallon Stutheit, Sr., 6’1, OH/MB, Johnson-Brock
Emma Gabel, Sr., 5’7, DS, Lincoln Pius X
Kalynn Meyer, Jr., 6’3, MB, Superior
Lindsay Krause, Soph., 6’3, OH, Skutt Catholic
Rylee Gray, Soph., 6’4, MB, Elkhorn South
Bekka Allick, Fr., 6’3, MB/OH, Lincoln North Star
