Continue ReadingScoring is a key aspect of the game of volleyball. It doesn’t matter how good a team is in defense or if it has a great setter, if it doesn’t score points there’s no way it will win a match. Even though a good offense is the one that involves at least a few players, some hitters naturally are more used by their teams due to their great efficiency and these are five athletes who had these roles at the Class 2A in 2019 and will likely carry the same loads again next season.
Abby Harrell – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Ellensburg
Abby Harrell was the only new face at Ellensburg’s senior-heavy roster in 2019 and she needed no time to earn her space with the team as a freshman. The 5’9” outside hitter quickly became a key piece for the Bulldogs and was the team’s second most effective player on offense with 277 kills. She also added 49 blocks and 28 aces to her name, deservedly getting an All-State first-team nomination.
Allie Andrew Allie Andrew 6'4" | MB Ridgefield | 2021 State WA – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Ridgefield
Allie Andrew Allie Andrew 6'4" | MB Ridgefield | 2021 State WA is one of the most promising prospects in the entire state and the 2019 season just reinforced it. The 6’4” middle-blocker was one of the key players in Ridgefield’s back-to-back State Championship victories as she registered 12 kills in the final against Ellensburg and made it to the All-State second team. Ranked second on prepdig.com’s class of 2021 ranking, she has already committed to Baylor. Besides her size, the hitter showed impressive quickness to step back from the net and be an option on offense during rallies.
MiKayla Uhlenkott – Outside Hitter/Opposite – Senior – Pullman
MiKayla Uhlenkott is one of the top talents in the division when it comes to hitting the ball. Besides a great size at 6’1”, the outside hitter/opposite also owns a massive vertical and a fantastic variety of swings. Her height certainly helps, but she’s also a very cerebral player, who consistently makes the right calls at the net. Her talent took her to an All-State first-team selection last year even if the Greyhounds didn’t enjoy a lot of success at the State Championship.
Reaghan Naboychik – Outside Hitter – Junior – Ellensburg
Reaghan Naboychik formed a formidable outside hitter duo with Abby Harrell at Ellensburg. The team’s march to the State Championship final was heavily influenced by the two of them and the 5’8” Naboychik proved especially effective at the net as she led the team in kills (282) and ranked third in blocks (32). She was an All-State nomination for the second team.
Sirena Peredo – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Washington
Sirena Peredo was a factor for Washington during her freshman campaign. The 5’6” outside hitter quickly became one of the most influential players of the team, which finished third at the State Championship. Her consistency with the Patriots made of her an All-State second-team selection.
