Continue ReadingThis month I will be rolling out some articles that are a little different than we have been writing for the past couple of months. We will still be doing our regular highlight articles on multiple athletes for exposure, however I wanted to do some special articles on a few special athletes that we are getting to know quite well with Prep Dig TX. These young ladies volunteered to answer some questions so that we could get to know them a little bit more personally. The athletes were hand picked out of quite a few submissions that I received. My next installment is with Miss Jordan Chapman Jordan Chapman 5'8" | S Reedy | 2022 State TX . She was picked because she is one of the setters for one of the best teams in the nation this year in the 2022 class and we at Prep Dig TX wanted the volleyball world to take notice with a more personal account of who she is. Without further ado, here is our article on Miss Jordan Chapman Jordan Chapman 5'8" | S Reedy | 2022 State TX .
Jordan Chapman Jordan Chapman 5'8" | S Reedy | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-8 Setter (HS: Reedy/Club: Drive Nation/Verbal: Uncommitted)
We currently have her ranked as the 95th best prospect overall and the 17th ranked setter in the stellar 2022 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She plays for some great programs in the Dallas area in Reedy high school and Drive Nation Volleyball club. Her Drive Nation squad has taken the age group by storm this year and proved that they are a serious contender for the ultimate crown in 17 Open. Her setting and leadership skills are a huge reason why. She sets for one of the most explosive lineups in the state of Texas. Jordan is a crafty setter who has helped 17 Red to a very impressive 44-10 overall record in club, which equates to an 81% winning percentage against some amazing competition. Having won the Mid-East national qualifier, they are now getting ready for Vegas to compete with the best the nation has to offer for USA Junior Nationals. The All-District setter has also helped her Reedy high school team to a 17-7 overall record and 14-3 in district. She is going to have them poised for another solid run next year, which is her senior season. She tracks the ball extremely well off of her passers platform, which helps with her setting location consistency. The jump-setting phenom runs such a fluid offense and we love when she goes against flow to keep the defense off-balance.
Miss Chapman’s star is on the rise and we are proud to have her in our State Rankings. She started off ranked 95thoverall but the more I watch her abilities, the more I keep thinking we could move her up the rankings in the 2022 class. She has a lot of tools that can easily get overlooked from having such huge offensive weapons. But true volleyball aficionados understand that a solid setter is exactly why the offense looks so smooth. There is a lot of depth to her and we wanted to see what makes her tick on and off the court. We were able to ask Jordan some personal questions so that our readers could get to know her a little better and here is a little from the conversation:
Prep Dig TX: What hobbies and interests other than volleyball do you have?
Jordan: I love watching movies, one of my favorites is the Shawshank Redemption and my comfort movies are any of the Toy Story movies. I love the outdoors, so in summer I am always doing something outside like hiking or swimming.
Prep Dig TX: What is the most played song/artist on your playlist?
Jordan: The most played artist on my playlist is Tyler, the Creator.
Prep Dig TX: Tell me why you started playing volleyball?
Jordan: When I was younger I wanted to be just like my big sister, Abby. She started playing rec volleyball at a gym close to our home. When I saw how much fun she was having I wanted to play too, so the very next season I joined a team.
Prep Dig TX: What keeps you motivated to get better at your craft at this point in your volleyball career?
Jordan: Getting towards the end of my 17’s season, I am still learning new techniques about setting but what motivates me to keep learning and working hard is getting to the collegiate level of play AND I just love playing.
Prep Dig TX: What do you love about the primary position that you play?
Jordan: I am a setter and I have been a setter for many years. One thing I can say about it is you definitely have to be a leader if you want to play the position. I have loved being a setter because it has allowed me to be a leader on the court. I get to run the offense and take control of the court.
Prep Dig TX: Name an influential coach that you have had and why they were influential to you.
Jordan: An influential coach that I have had is Coach Jacob Hanan. He is influential to me because he has taught me not only the sport of volleyball but he is a fierce competitor. He contributed to my love of the game. I’ve learned things from him that I will take with me in future jobs or anything I will try to accomplish in life.
Prep Dig TX: Name an influential player that you have played with and why they were influential to you.
Jordan: I actually have two. Angela Henson Angela Henson 5'5" | DS/L Lebanon Trail | 2023 State TX is still on my team now and has been since I was 10 years old. She is most influential to me because she is the hardest worker I know. At any practice or workout she is always doing the right thing even if there is no reward involved. I’ve always worked to be as disciplined as her. The second one is Camryn Hill Camryn Hill 5'10" | OH Reedy | 2022 State TX . She and I both play in high school and club together. She is a BIG competitor and has a lot of drive. She will work through any injury/pain and still play while working her hardest for the team.
Prep Dig TX: What is one thing you want to work on the most to be better in your position?
Jordan: I want to work on being more creative when running my offense. I have learned a lot about running different plays with different people but when you play a team that is familiar with you, you have to switch it up or your hitters will get stuck. So I’m trying to work on more unpredictable plays.
Jordan has burst onto the scene this year for us and we are so excited to cover her for her junior and senior season. We will be in Vegas this year to watch her at USA Nationals and can’t wait to see how they will fare in 17 Open. Every college coach should absolutely take notice of just how good she is and how much potential she has to get even better. We hope all of our readers enjoyed getting to know her a little bit better. Stay tuned for more info on Miss Chapman.
