As we continue to preview what the high school season will look like in the Houston area, we shift our focus from teams to players and highlight five of the most intriguing prospects in the districts located in the region.
This time, our journey has taken us to Division 6A – District 19:
Addison Chapman Addison Chapman 6'3" | RS Katy | 2023 State TX – Outside Hitter/Middle Blocker – Katy – Club: Houston Juniors – 2023
Addison Chapman Addison Chapman 6'3" | RS Katy | 2023 State TX is an extremely valuable asset at the net and also with her ability to play in different positions. She was more of an outside hitter for Katy last season, but moved after starting the club season on the right with her Houston Juniors team, moved to the middle towards the end and did well there too. She’s expected to move back to the pin with the Lady Tigers and to take full advantage of her 6’3” frame and tremendous length to help the team score points. Chapman produced 155 kills, 76 digs, 41 blocks and 183 passes in the team’s last campaign.
Caelyn Dumas Caelyn Dumas 5'10" | S Tompkins | 2025 State TX – Setter/Right Side – Paetow – Club: Houston Juniors – 2025
Caelyn Dumas Caelyn Dumas 5'10" | S Tompkins | 2025 State TX joined Paetow last season as a freshman and it immediately became her team. The 5’10” lefty showed all of her versatility and her excellent all-around game in 2021-2022, producing 351 assists, 219 kills, 245 digs, 47 blocks and 31 aces and proved she’s the player the Lady Panthers want to build around during the next few years. Dumas is very technical and her game is very smooth, be it when she’s setting or hitting. She plays the game in a very aggressive way and works really hard on defense too.
Courtney O’Brien Courtney O’Brien 5'10" | OH Cinco Ranch | 2023 State TX – Outside Hitter – Cinco Ranch – Club: Houston Skyline – 2023
Courtney O’Brien Courtney O’Brien 5'10" | OH Cinco Ranch | 2023 State TX was the heart and soul of her Cinco Ranch team over the last two seasons and that should grow to an even larger extent in her senior season. A 5’10” outside hitter, she’s very complete and dynamic and is typically the player that will be called upon to hit when the game is on the line. She’s a force offensively and has excellent chemistry with the team’s setter Kassidy, who happens to be her younger sister. O’Brien is also very well-versed on the backcourt and ended last season with 384 kills, 397 digs, 531 passes and 35 blocks.
Cindy Tchouangwa Cindy Tchouangwa 5'11" | OH Tompkins | 2023 State #45 Nation TX – Outside Hitter – Tompkins – Club: Houston Juniors – 2023
A six-footer with tremendous firepower, Cindy Tchouangwa Cindy Tchouangwa 5'11" | OH Tompkins | 2023 State #45 Nation TX is capable of carrying any team’s offense and Tompkins has been lucky to have her for the last few years. She can play on the left or the right and, whatever she is, she’ll be a kill waiting to happen with her impressive physical tools, but is also a very intelligent player who makes excellent decisions regarding her shots when up in the air. Tchouangwa has been steadily improving her backcourt skills and is already an influential all-around player, having ended last season with 430 kills, 288 digs, 410 passes and 67 blocks.
Sameena Burns Sameena Burns 6'2" | MB Seven Lakes | 2024 State TX – Middle Blocker – Seven Lakes – Club: Houston Skyline – 2024
One of the most important returning pieces to her Seven Lakes team, Sameena Burns Sameena Burns 6'2" | MB Seven Lakes | 2024 State TX will be tasked with leading the team on the court this season. The 6’2” middle blocker was a prominent player for the team last season, when she tallied 121 kills and 107 blocks and seems poised for more after a solid club season with her Houston Skyline team. Burns has great length and can take up a lot of space with her blocking, especially because of her quick feet. She’s also a really valuable offensive player, hitting at a very high efficiency rate down the middle.
