The idea is to do things a little bit differently this year, so after every match I attend, I’ll be posting a quick article highlighting the players that stood out the most in that particular encounter.
On Tuesday, October 4, we were in Cypress to watch the round 2 district match between the Langham Creek Lobos (25-12) and the Bridgeland Bears (32-7). Playing on the road, the Bears repeated the score of the first meeting between the teams in the season, winning 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-18) to improve to 7-1 in district play. The Lobos now stand at 6-3 in Division 6A – District 16.
Top Performers
Bridgeland’s athletic outside hitter was extremely efficient at the net throughout the entire match, scoring from the left and the right and carrying the team’s offense. Kays often thrived by using her length to hit over the top of Langham Creek’s shorter blockers, but also proved to be resourceful enough to score with tips or by tooling the block when needed. She sided out when the odds were against her and also came up big with blocks in key moments of the match.

Bridgeland’s starting setter had a big challenge ahead of her as with a big and productive blocker like Jordan Taylor Jordan Taylor 6’5″ | MB Langham Creek | 2025 State #46 Nation TX across the net, her ball distribution could determine her team’s success. McIntyre did a great job with that, moving her hitters around when in-system and making good decisions that placed them in a good position to score more often than not. She also produced several digs during the match and had good moments at the service line.
Bridgeland’s star libero had another impressive performance filled with jaw-dropping digs. As usual, Volpe was very active and focused on the backcourt and almost nothing got past her, from hard-driven hits to tips and setter dumps. It was another consistent match from her, with very few mistakes and several recoveries when covering her hitters. Volpe also had a long serving run that helped the Bears climb back to take set one.
Langham Creek’s towering middle blocker featured one of the most incredible plays of the night early on set one, when she blocker a setter dump without even getting off the floor. Her blocking was a factor during the entire match and if she only got four stuffs, she touched a lot of balls and helped generate several transition plays for the Lobos. It took her a little while to get into a good offensive rhythm, but once she did it, Taylor was able to continue scoring at a high clip until the end, tallying ten kills.
The high-flying outside hitter was fed during the entire match and scored at a fairly good rate, leaving the court with a team-high 15 kills. She would often use her power and athleticism to overcome Bridgeland’s blockers and defenders, but also turned to finesse and smart plays on certain occasions. Jones was very solid with her passing (44 passes) and also made important plays on defense, tallying 23 digs. Her blocking was positive too as she did a good job in closing her area, got two stuffs and touched a few balls.
