These are the frosh that made significant contributions to their high school team. For the most part it is Northern Virginia high schools, but I have included high schools from the private Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) and the Independent School League (ISL).

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id='181302' first='Kennedy' last='Spaid'] (James Wood) OH - James Wood will be going to States this year. One of the leaders on this team is Kennedy. She leads the team in kills and is their tallest player at 5'10". Her back row play could use some improvement, but you can say that about almost any frosh. She does play beach so that will help. When she gets her set she puts the ball away. There are not a lot of frosh out there leading their team to a 23-1 record. That is why she has also been selected as the Frosh of the Year.

[player_tooltip player_id='220923' first='Soleil' last='Rancourt'] (Patriot) OH - Her sister plays left side. Dryden will graduate after the season is over. That is probably when Soleil moves to the left side. While her sister led the team in kills Soleil was second. Patriot ran a 6/2 so Soleil did not get an opportunity to play back row. That may come next year. At 6'1" she also has a couple inches on her sister in height. Soleil was voted to the Cedar Run District second team, the only frosh to be selected.

[player_tooltip player_id='238356' first='Morgan' last='Reeves'] (St. Johns) OH - Morgan also has her sister Maya playing with her. Her sister plays libero and comes in for the left sides, which is the position Morgan plays. Morgan does get an opportunity to serve and leads the team in aces. She is also second on the team in kills. At 5'10" she has some length and the pop to put some velocity on the ball. Her passing needs improvement if she hopes to be a six rotation player. She was named honorable mention to the WCAC All conference team.

[player_tooltip player_id='238341' first='Teodora' last='Stamenkovic'] (Bishop O'Connell) MB - At 6'1" her game right now is suited for the middle. She is second on the team in blocks and third on the team in kills. Eventually she may move to the outside, but she has to improve her timing and her passing. Her court awareness must also improve, but that can also be said about most frosh. When she hits the ball it goes down with a boom. There may be no other frosh who hits the ball harder. She was also named honorable mention on the WCAC All Conference team.

[player_tooltip player_id='238850' first='Sydney' last='Bennett'] (Patriot) MB - The second player from Patriot to make this team. She made significant contributions to her high school team that allowed them to compete for the state championship. She leads her team in blocking and is proficient at running quicks in the middle. That puts the pressure off the outsides. She was voted Honorable Mention for the Cedar District All Tournament team.

[player_tooltip player_id='238851' first='Piper' last='Xeller'] (Herndon) MB - At 5'10" she had the most length on the roster. The Hornets seemed to rely more on their outsides for offense this year so Piper did not get a lot of opportunity to hit. She went to the pins well doing the under appreciated work of a middle blocker by moving side to side and throwing up her hands in an attempt to block. She did play some beach over the summer, which should improve her quickness and all around game.

[player_tooltip player_id='238357' first='Claire' last='Mo'] (Langley) S - Currently she is only a three rotation player, setting from the back row. At 5'8" she has the potential to set a 5/1, but the other setter spot was voted the Liberty District player of the year. Claire runs the offense like a veteran, calling the plays and telling her hitters what set she is going to set them. If you watch her play on the court you would not think of her as a frosh. She was voted honorable mention to the Liberty District team.

[player_tooltip player_id='206729' first='Megan' last='Phan'] (Bullis) S - While she set a 5/1 she contributed a lot more than just setting the balls to the hitters. She was also second on the team in aces. And despite her 5'6" height she was third on the team in blocks. Bullis this year was bumped up from the A Division to the AA Division to compete against some of the stronger teams in the Independent School League (ISL), like Flint Hill and Georgetown Day. They finished fourth in a very competitive conference, with a team mostly composed of frosh and sophomores. Megan was a key contributor to that success with her setting, serving and even blocking.

[player_tooltip player_id='238857' first='Julie' last='Xu'] (Oakton) RS - When I saw her earlier in the year she did not get a lot of opportunities to play, but she showed some potential when she got on the court. Later in the year she seemed to get acclimated to the higher level of volleyball and began putting balls away. Because she played right side she did not get an opportunity to play back row. Eventually, she may move to the left side. She has good length and arm extension to put the ball down.

[player_tooltip player_id='238358' first='Evie' last='Huang'] (Flint Hill) Libero - She beat out some veteran back row players to take the libero spot on the team. She has not lost the job yet and Flint Hill has yet to lose a set this season. She has strong hands that allows her to play shallower on serve receive than most liberos, taking the serve with two hands rather than platform passing. She also seems to be in the right spot to dig a hit. Her older sister Zoe Huang set for Flint Hill and now plays for Maryland.

[player_tooltip player_id='218149' first='Giselle' last='Norris'] (Millbrook) Defensive specialist - Another frosh who made the starting lineup for a veteran team that appeared in the States last year. The one player Millbrook lost to graduation this year was their libero Autumn Stroop, who was the only Millbrook player to make first team All State in Class 4. Those are pretty big shoes to fill, but Giselle thought they fit just fine. She played so well that she was one of three frosh to get voted to the first team Northwestern District. The other two were [player_tooltip player_id='181302' first='Kennedy' last='Spaid'] and

[player_tooltip player_id='181280' first='Brenna' last='Corbin'] (James Wood) utility - I didn't really know what position to put her at. She played libero for her club team and at 5'5" that might be the best position for her. For the Colonels she was second on the team in kills hitting left side. My guess is she can set if asked and since this first team only has two setters she will be my emergency setter. Beach may be the game of her future and she plays in tournaments with [player_tooltip player_id='181302' first='Kennedy' last='Spaid'] for Blue Ridge. She uses those beach skills well in the indoor environment.

Frosh of the Year - [player_tooltip player_id='181302' first='Kennedy' last='Spaid']

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id='210539' first='Emma' last='Gardner'] (Woodson) OH - She was a six rotation player for Woodson. There were times she hit right side, but she mostly hit left side. At 6'1" she has the height to dominate once she gains strength to add more velocity to her hits. Emma was second on her team in kills and was second on the team in digs, only trailing the libero. She was also important to the team in serve reception.

[player_tooltip player_id='227251' first='Morgan' last='D. Williams'] (Lake Braddock) OH - I have not seen her play but I've watched her video and she puts the ball down. She is listed at 6'2". With that height she is also listed as a middle.

[player_tooltip player_id='238593' first='Tehillah' last='Garrison'] (Colgan) OH - Colgan is hoping to repeat as Class 6 State champions this year. There is not a lot of room for outsides in the starting lineup, but Tehillah got some opportunities to serve for the middle in most games. I saw her start two games against Flint Hill and she held her own, putting a couple balls down. She should establish more of a role with the team next year. At 5'8" she would be small for a left side but she has a good vertical to make up for it.

[player_tooltip player_id='238376' first='Anasofia' last='Zanellato'] (James Madison) S - At 6'0' she stands tall for a setter. At the beginning of the year she only played back row but as the season progressed she got some front row playing time, accumulating 44 kills. She was the only frosh to be voted to the first team Concorde District.

[player_tooltip player_id='204152' first='Sofie' last='Ferrell'] (Woodson) S - At the beginning of the season she did not get many opportunities on the court. As the season progressed she got more playing time to show off her soft hands. She is quick to the ball and smooth with her movements. She also has a lethal serve, leading the team in aces per set. It would not surprise me that she is the starting setter for the team next year.

[player_tooltip player_id='221032' first='Wynn' last='Eaton'] (St. Johns) S - Early in the season she had a little bit of a deep dish to her sets. As the season progressed her hands got stronger and that deep dish is barely noticeable now. She stands 5'9" and appears to have some room to grow. St, Johns likes to rotate setters during a match, running each in a 5/1 offense. Eventually, it may be best to run a 6'2" to keep them fresh during a match.

[player_tooltip player_id='238595' first='Sofia' last='Delarosa'] (Bishop McNamara) MB - She is a tall girl at 5'10" who prefers to play outside. She can hit the ball hard but her back row play still needs some work. Since this team lacks middles this will be her position. She has a real enthusiasm for playing the game. McNamara had one of their best seasons this year and next year DelaRosa could add to that improvement.

[player_tooltip player_id='238861' first='Autumn' last='Okorie'] (Potomac) MB - A right side who has played middle in travel ball. Right side may be her best position, but we lack middles on the second team. She has some length, but to be an effective middle she would need to improve her quickness at moving to the pins. As a right side she puts up an effective block.

[player_tooltip player_id='238365' first='Molly' last='Gardner'] (Briar Woods) Libero - She has a strong arm and was used a little bit as a hitter during her early club years. She even has some experience as a setter. That gives her familiarity with all the positions. With her height settling at about 5'6" the libero position may be best for her. She plays a strong defense and has the quiet arms needed to pass. She just needs the experience playing the position.

[player_tooltip player_id='238862' first='Livian' last='Lee'] (Woodson) defensive specialist - She was really just a serving specialist during her first year with Woodson. She is very athletic and quick and will eventually take over the libero position. She has the vocal presence to rule the back row.

[player_tooltip player_id='238852' first='Casey' last='Yuh'] (Yorktown) utility - She was one of the starting setters for a team that ran a 6/2, being taken out once she entered the front row. She may lack the height to operate a 5/1 but her hands and quickness on the floor are suited for setting. That quickness can also be used for back row play.

Chesapeake Chirps: Class 5D played some local weekend semifinal regional action. Riverside defeated Patrick Henry in four tight matches, 26-24, 22-25, 27-25, 25-16. In the other semifinal action Massaponax swept Briar Woods, but the games were close, 27-25, 25-19, 25-23.... Bishop O'Connell won the WCAC championship for the second straight year, sweeping Holy Cross. [player_tooltip player_id='181098' first='Grace' last='Maria'] finished with 28 kills, an average of over nine kills per set. [player_tooltip player_id='180296' first='Madison' last='Bowser'] added 14, including at least three that were pummeled in front of the ten foot line with significant bounce off the floor that put the Knight fans in a frenzy. [player_tooltip player_id='212889' first='Hannah' last='Kotb'] stood her ground and dug up some vicious [player_tooltip player_id='180288' first='Emerson' last='Sellman'] spikes, though one kill knocked her to the floor. Hannah led the team with 17 points on serve, including three aces...Flint Hill continued their sweep through the season with their 33rd straight sweep, this one over Georgetown Day, to win the championship of the ISL.

These are the frosh that made significant contributions to their high school team. For the most part it is Northern Virginia high schools, but I have included high schools from the private Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) and the Independent School League (ISL).
