Another setter that no one can claim height as a reason, 6-foot AnaSofia has set absolute hitting monsters in HS, at both Holy Cross and McNamara, and came from a solid MVSA club to MD Juniors. She’s got experience, her blocking is solid, her sets look fluid and accurate, and she can give you some nasty one-handed offense with setter dumps. Why hasn’t she signed? Here’s her video, go watch and tell me what I’m missing. I’ve seen plenty of D3s recently that were only specifically looking for tall 5-1 setters. Well, here’s a great one. https://www.youtube.com/@anasofiazanellato

At 6’0″ Anasofia brings excellent height for a setter. Whether it is for Holy Cross, MVSA or Maryland Juniors she seems to fulfill the front row setter role in a 5/2 offense. She definitely brings an offensive threat when playing there.
Perhaps her quickness in the back row restricts her to front row setting. It has been a long time since I have seen her set in the back row. For Holy Cross only middle blocker

finished the season with more blocks than Anasofia. Holy Cross went undefeated in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), but eventually lost to Bishop O’Connell in the finals of the playoffs.
If you are looking for height in your setter Anasofia is worth a watch.

She set for Holy Cross this past year. At 6’0″ they used her mostly in the front row to set. The Tartans ran a modified 5/1 using a second setter that came in for Anasofia in the back row. On passes tight to the net it took little effort for Anasofia to reach high over the net to put the ball to the floor. At the DMV Prep Dig 250 Expo she showed a good serve, collecting three consecutive aces as the event came to a close.
The big thing she needs to work on is making the right set to earn a point. That means sometimes making the easy set to the hitter best at getting the kill, rather than put up the unexpected more difficult set to a less accomplished hitter. Definitely some talent to work with here.
Anasofia will play for Maryland Juniors this year. Setting in the backrow while also allowing her to hit or set in the front row would enhance her game. In addition, limiting her setting to the front row does not give her the opportunity to showcase her serve. That serving had the highest ace percentage on the Tartan team this past season.
