It’s needless to say that everything will be on the line this weekend, starting with Friday’s regional semifinals and ending on Saturday’s regional finals, and every match is absolutely worth watching, but here are four exciting duels, one from each region of the Lone Star State, we’d like to present.
Region 1: Bushland vs. Wall – @ Lubbock Cooper HS – 8 PM
The Bushland Falcons (37-4) are the reigning state champions and will try to make another run for the State Championship. They won Conference 3A – District 1 with eight wins and are undefeated in their last 25 matches after they topped Littlefield, Crane and Shallowater in the playoffs. Bushland’s senior trio of Kaela Neie (outside hitter), Jada Permenter (libero) and Logan Culpepper (setter) is one of the strengths of the team.
The Wall Hawks (37-6) were the winners of Conference 3A – District 6 with an undefeated campaign of six victories. Their postseason run was victories against Llano, Bowie and Henrietta. Senior outside hitter Kamryn Williams and junior right side Sloane Paugh Sloane Paugh 5'10" | RS Floresville | 2025 TX have been operating pretty well on both sides of the ball and thriving on offense under the system of junior setter Emma McShan.
Region 2: Canton vs. Aubrey – @ John Horn HS – 6 PM
The Canton Eagles (33-7) have been a force in region 2 as they won Conference 4A – District 16 with 12 straight victories. The team has also had a remarkable playoff run so far, eliminating Paris, Kaufman and Pleasant Grove in the postseason. Junior setter Georgia crayton Georgia crayton 5'7" | S Canton | 2024 TX has been doing a great job in leading an offensive line that features sophomore right side Allison Rickman and senior outside hitter Airianna Pickens.
The Aubrey Chaparrals (36-9) were the winners of Conference 4A – District 11 with a strong campaign of nine wins and one loss. They have been on fire in the playoffs, sweeping Hampton Prep, Alvarado and Panther Creek on their way to the regional semifinals. Senior outside hitter Sydney Garrison Sydney Garrison 5'11" | OH Aubrey | 2023 State TX has been a stud for the Chaparrals, who also get great production from sophomore middle Kynadi Hall and junior setter Olivia Starr.
Region 3: Tompkins vs. Clear Springs – @ Delmar Fieldhouse – 5 PM
The Tompkins Falcons (39-4) from Katy are coming from a big win over Ridge Point in the regional quarterfinals. The winners of Conference 6A – District 19 with 16 wins have also beat Fort Bend Austin and Cypress Creek in the playoffs. Senior right side Cindy Tchouangwa Cindy Tchouangwa 5'11" | OH Tompkins | 2023 State #45 Nation TX has been on fire in the postseason and has been huge for the Falcons, who have a great all-around played in junior outside hitter Skylar Skrabanek Skylar Skrabanek 6'1" | OH Randle | 2024 State TX and a highly-talented libero in sophomore Brooklynn Merrell Brooklynn Merrell 5'6" | S Tompkins | 2025 State TX .
The Clear Springs Chargers (39-8) from League City handed the Falcons one of their four losses this season. The team won Conference 6A – District 24 with a perfect record of 12 victories and has showed strength in the playoffs, knocking Shadow Creek, Atascocita and Pearland out. One of the most complete players in the region, junior setter/right side Ashley Richardson Ashley Richardson 5'11" | S Clear Springs | 2024 State TX has been in excellent form all season and forms the core of the team with fellow junior setter Morgen Durgens Morgen Durgens 5'9" | S Clear Springs | 2024 State TX and senior right side Carissa Young.
Region 4: Liberty Hill vs. Sharyland – @ Northside Sports Gym – 5 PM
The Liberty Hill Panthers (40-10) were second in Conference 5A – District 25 and caused back-to-back upsets against district winners in the playoffs, topping Harlandale and Canyon – they also defeated Tivy in the postseason. The team’s junior duo formed by right side Giovanna Mason Giovanna Mason 5'11" | RS Liberty Hill | 2024 State TX and outside hitter Kealy Dirner has been very strong offensively while another junior, setter Carson Glenn, is on pace to reach 800 season assists on the match – she’s currently at 791.
The Sharyland Rattlers (44-4) from Mission won Conference 5A – District 31 with 17 wins and one loss and are currently on an eight-match winning streak. Their postseason campaign has victories over Lopez, Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial and Victoria West. The team has a very strong sophomore due with outside hitter Kenisha Martinez and setter Kassandra De La Garza while senior outside hitter America Hernandez is a fantastic two-way player.
