Some of the most impressive victories obtained in the round featured spectacular individual performances and we’re here to highlight them.
Here are five players who did a lot for their teams on Monday and Tuesday:
The top-ranked prospect in our 2023 Prep Dig State Rankings, Stowers starred in one of the biggest matches of the round, helping her team Guyer beat Highland Park in four sets on Tuesday. The six-footer was the force she usually is at the net, tallying a match-high 22 kills (including the game-winning one), but also filled the stat sheet with impressive numbers in every other category, registering 21 passes, nine digs, four aces and three blocks in her outstanding performance.
Rockwall’s towering outside hitter has put on a monster performance on Tuesday to help the Yellowjackets come out on top of a dramatic five-set battle with Sachse. Kelley had her second-best offensive production of the season in a key moment, tallying impressive 30 kills, but also worked hard to come up big on the backcourt, producing a season-high 34 passes and 18 digs to go with one ace and one block.
Manvel’s sophomore setter played like a veteran and guided her team to a big five-set victory against Barbers Hill on Tuesday and had arguably her best performance in the entire season. Massie’s ball handling was impeccable, prompting her to tally 45 assists, her second-best mark in the year. The setter also came up big at the net, producing a season-high seven blocks and five kills. Massie rounded up a fantastic performance with 14 digs.
Not many people expected Tuesday’s match between Tompkins and Ridge Point to end in three sets but it did, in great part, thanks to Tchouangwa. Tompkins’ athletic right side hitter was on fire and produced an impressive triple-double of 21 kills, 20 passes and 17 digs. Perhaps more important than the stats, however, was the timing of some of her plays as she played a key role in the Falcons’ comebacks on sets one and two.
Another player to contribute across the board for her team’s victory, Joseph helped Harlan top Warren in four sets on Tuesday. The dynamic outside hitter inspired her teammates with her strong performance and produced in every area of the game. Joseph led Harlan’s offense with 20 kills, but was perhaps even more valuable in the backcourt with an impressive 28 passes and 12 digs – she also tallied a block.
