Cai is an intelligent setter who does great eye work and makes sure she finds the right match ups for her hitters. She has a smart approach from the service line, she mixes it up and is especially tough when she keeps her serves near the end line. Her tempo and connection with her outsides at Bellevue was exceptional this season.
The junior middle is a fierce competitor and good athlete, she was up to the challenge facing off against tall and tough middles in the GSHL 2A conference. Millspaugh was at her best when she faced off against the top teams, including a 15 kill match versus Ridgefield. She has a strong transition and a live arm, she is very good hitting the “3”.
Highlights
Consistent in serve receive and passing with good tempo, VanderYacht sets up many of the high powered attacks for her Lynden team. Passing a free ball or medium pace attack accurately and with good tempo is an underrated skill, and she puts the pass on the money to setter Grace Rice. Her energy was on full display at the state tournament, she does a wonderful job leading the defense for the Lions.
Everything you want in your opposite, lefty, nice size, live arm, Grieser has covered. Her ability to move the ball around on the attack is excellent, she can take it down the line or at the angle with a hard cut. She added setting duties at time during the school season, and that shows just her versatile a player she is.
Highlights
Blankenship-Poydras has explosion and the power to bring the house down with a big kill. An exciting player to watch, she has shown a sharp wrist away angle and is very quick to transition. She should shine offensively and have a big club season on the outside this year.
The Richland Bombers relied on Holm’s big block and steady play this season. Strong hands and a good press resulted in monster blocks for her in the MCC conference, and Richland captured a berth in the State Tournament. Offensively she has a good turn, and is smartly reads and avoids the opposing middles block.
Gritty and tough, Oty will hang in against the big arms and is not afraid to get on the floor for a save. Against the top teams in the GSL she posted her best defensive number, including a 22 dig effort against Mt Spokane. Her second ball setting is technically sound, both from her platform and when she has a chance to get her hands to the ball.
Ward is an player to watch from her setter spot. With excellent size and strength, she keeps plays alive and is a team captain and leader for Gig Harbor. A multi-sport athlete, she is a natural blocker and has the body control to stay out of the net when a pass is tight.
A hard working player with a non-stop motor, Kilcup did her best work on the block for Emerald Ridge this season. She posted 6 blocks against powerful Curtis, and her offensive number should continue to pick up with more sets coming her way.
Koetje is an aggressive outside who has a heavy arm. She played extremely well at at the state tournament, and posted big kill numbers all season long. She is currently hitting threes for the Lynden hoops team, she is a multi-sport athlete who has great movement and awareness on the volleyball court.
