Nebraska’s Class of 2025 gave us a lot to think about this year. From the start of the club season in January, we could see this group was about to take a big step forward. That trend continued into the fall when several new 2025s rose to the forefront and warranted a spot on our rankings. This feature is about those new additions.
Like our other recent rankings updates, we have a lot of athletes to cover. So, here’s Part 1 of our new additions to Nebraska’s Class of 2025 rankings.
Evangelho seems poised for a breakout 2023 campaign after she recently shined at our Top 250 Expo in Des Moines, Iowa. Her frontcourt physicality is a perfect fit for the middle blocker position, and we should get another glimpse of that as Evangelho competes with VCNebraska this spring.
Highlights
Here’s another one of our top performers from the Top 250 Expo series. Hill showcased her precise setting skills at our Nebraska event, and that should translate well to her upcoming club season with Premier Nebraska 16 Red.
Papillion-La Vista is no stranger to strong, physical athletes at middle blocker. Vitera is the next in line. Her attacking prowess in front of the setter was immediately evident in this our Top 250 Expo and warranted a spot on our newest 2025 rankings.
Highlights
Dzingle impressed me at multiple venues during this year’s high school season. She was a standout scorer for Kearney Catholic when I visited the early-season Harvest Festival Invite in Gothenburg. Dzingle kept that same energy for the season finale at the state tournament in Lincoln. Just another dominant middle blocker for the Stars.
Potthoff was a vital part of Gretna’s two-headed monster at the setter spot this year, and she might have a chance to take over the Dragon offense entirely in 2023. Regardless, her performance at our Nebraska showcase was a testament to her ability to lead a team in a variety of ways.
Highlights
Seward was one of this year’s breakout teams in Class B. Miller had a lot to do with this sudden emergence, as she tallied nearly 300 kills from the middle blocker spot and put up an astounding triple-digit block total. It’s scary to think that Miller could become even more productive as an upperclassman.
Porter simply knows how to dig heat. That was apparent while she shined in individual drills at the Nebraska Top 250 Expo, and she has a long career of eye-popping plays ahead of her at Bellevue West.
Highlights
Let’s put another small-town middle blocker on your radar. Riggert burst onto the scene with Pierce by averaging a .300 hitting percentage on nearly three kills per set this year. The Bluejays ought to keep leaning on this multi-sport standout as they look to make a postseason return.
Highlights
We’ll be keeping a close eye on some up-and-coming athletes from Nebraska Juniors this spring, and Meister is definitely one of those players to know. This outside hitter’s impressive length and elevation will be an asset as 16 Black looks to make some noise.
Highlights
Columbus is quietly stockpiling some nice frontcourt talent to lead the Discoverer program into the future. Miller fits into this category, as the imposing middle blocker eclipsed triple-digit kills this fall on a solid efficiency.
Highlights
Our run of standout middle blockers continues. Schmidt took a huge step forward in her sophomore campaign with Omaha Concordia, tallying 179 kills on a 0.281 clip. With such a sharp rise in production, it’s hard to predict how high Schmidt might rise in 2023.
Land is one of several electrifying underclassmen who have forged a bit of a renaissance for Minden. The sophomore outside hitter had a steady role in the balanced Whippet offense and delivered some clutch side-outs in the state championships. Expect more of the same next year.
Speaking of surging high school programs, Oakland-Craig has a state title and back-to-back state tournament appearances thanks to some strong 2025 talent. Seagren is one of those underclassman contributors, and she chipped in with nearly 300 kills this season to rank second on the team in the category.
Finally, we wrapped up this feature with a defensive specialist who is becoming very familiar with the state championship stage. Bayer and Howells-Dodge keep making waves with two-straight state titles. The Jaguars got so much from their sophomore libero this year, and she’ll likely find a leadership role with a younger roster next year.
