We were not disappointed with the amazing turnout and talent this year. It’s hard not to get excited for the club season ahead after the Resolution.
Here are some setters from the class of 2024 that really impressed during the Prep Dig Resolution.
Van Lannen runs a 5-1 for FC Elite 17 Navy and never missed a beat the entire weekend. She serves a low flat float into the seam and does a great job getting her hips under the ball when she plays defense. Van Lannen also does a great job moving the ball from pin to pin and not letting her sets die inside and trapping hitters. She does a really nice job finding her middles even if the pass takes her 5-10 ft off the net. Van Lannen also does a great job at holding the opposing blocks attention and still tricking them in the direction she is setting.
Fruzen is a really smart player with good location of her sets. She is very disciplined with getting her feet to the ball and hips square. Fruzen does a great job in or out of system to get her attackers a hittable ball.
Highlights
This girl is a workhorse! Potter has great hands and works the ball from pin to pin with confidence. She is a tough competitor that knows how to better the ball every time she touches it.
Bruss has great hands to go along with a very athletic style of play. She’s grown into such a precise setter putting the ball right where her hitters need it. What was even better is after seeing her make an error, she responds so well with the next set being pin point accurate. I love that kind of mental toughness! It’s so fun to watch her connect with a number of really talented attackers.
Guld is one of those really quick, athletic, graceful players that comes out of nowhere. Just when you think a ball is dead she is suddenly there turning it into a big play. Her hands are soft and quick and she really works a variety of sets to different players making her offense really hard to predict. No matter where she makes that 2nd contact she somehow delivers a hittable ball to her attackers.
Sommer is smart and strategic and really good at providing the high ball that allows attackers to prove their athleticism. She has gotten quicker since this past fall and gets a ton of touches on defense and as a blocker. Sommer can also swing and terminate from anywhere. She is a solid all around athlete that has experience as a setter, middle, and swinging from either pin. I’ve seen her do it all and really well.
Pleuss is a very consistent setter that doesn’t make a whole lot of errors. You can tell she quickly thinks through her options and usually makes the most efficient choice for her team that results in a point. Pleuss has really nice hands, a quick high release on the ball, and a beautiful follow through.
Bauer is new to me but I really liked how comfortable she looked in a competitive environment. She was setting a slide from more than 10ft off the net in the middle of the court and it was just perfect placement. Bauer is also really good at keeping her hitters off the net allowing them a number of options with their attack. She doesn’t trap them and really makes smart decisions.
