Most of the top prospects in the region will be on the court and we’ll use the week to highlight some of the most promising players who will be battling in the Alamo City over the weekend. Keep an eye on these middles when they’re on the court:
A long and athletic middle, Pope is expected to play a big role for SA Magic 18 Elite in the 17-18 Girls division. She’s a very productive middle, who gets to impact the game on both sides of the ball with her length and skills. Pope’s blocking is as strong as anyone’s as she does a very good job of pressing above the net with her arms. She has also developed into a strong offensive player over the year, using her high contact point and her ability to hit sharp angle on both directions to score from the middle.
Carter is a key player on the strong Alamo 17 Premier team that will be among the contenders in the 17-18 Girls division. She leaves nothing to be desired in terms of length, athleticism and understanding of the game but it’s actually her mobility that makes her stand out among the players in her position. Not many middles of Carter’s size can move as smoothly on the court as she does and that impacts both her blocking and her offensive game as she can quickly get to the pin to make stops or beat opponents on offense with her quick feet.
Lembcke will provide a strong presence in the middle for her SA Juniors 17 Adidas team that will compete in the 17-18 Girls division. She’s a very versatile player, who can also play on the right and has great strength in her offensive game. Lembcke is very productive with her swings, often hammering the ball straight down, and is extremely prolific when hitting a quick set behind the setter. Her big block also poses a huge challenge for opposing hitters that go against her at the net.
Awagu joined Alamo this season coming from SA Juniors and will be another promising middle in action in the 17-18 Girls Division with Alamo 16 Premier. She first stood out during the 2021 high school season and has only gotten better. Her size and long arms are the first things that impress when you look at Awagu for the first time, but her game complements that well as she uses her lower body to get off the floor really well and has been working to improve her skills. Also capable of playing on the right, Awagu is a strong offensive player and a solid blocker.
Hannah Spencer

Spencer is coming from a solid high school season with Cornerstone Christian is now patrolling the middle for Alamo 18 Premier, one of the top teams in the 17-18 Girls division. Her game has developed greatly when it comes to blocking as she reads the game very well and does an excellent job of moving from pin to pin and closing the space. Spencer is also a solid offensive player and can score in transition even without a full approach.
