That should continue to become more evident over the next year.
While a number of 2025 talents already are proven leaders for their prep programs, more should be stepping up as juniors in the fall of 2023.
Here’s a look at some of the 2025s we think can make a bigger name for themselves next prep season.
Gabriella Babinski Gabriella Babinski 6'1" | RS South Lyon East | 2025 State MI , OH South Lyon East
Babinski was a solid OPP for South Lyon East in 2022, but the team’s kill leader will be graduating. That leaves a space open for Babinski to take on a bigger role. The 6’2” Babinski has great finishing power to go with an ever-improving serve and defensive game.
Chloe Giehtbrock Chloe Giehtbrock 6'2" | S Marian | 2025 State MI , S/OPP Marian
Giehtbrock has been a utility option in her club and prep career, but she’s been putting in the focus on being a setter this club season with L2. At 6’2”, Giehtbrock brings a lot of athleticism and length to the position. She’s an aggressive player that is determined to succeed. While it’s unclear what her role will be with her new prep squad at Marian, she’s got a skillset to help the Mustangs overcome some big graduation losses.
Sadie Haase Sadie Haase 5'11" | MB Fruitport | 2025 State MI , MH Fruitport
Haase already has established herself as an on-court leader, but deserves to be highlighted more. The 6-footer put down 405 kills for the Trojans in 2022 and contributed defensively with 149 digs as well from the middle position. Haase should be coming into 2023 with plenty of confidence and ready to battle through the extra defensive attention she is sure to draw.
Kennedi Miller Kennedi Miller 6'3" | MB Lake Orion | 2025 State MI , MH Lake Orion
The Dragons will have to make a big adjustment next fall with Nina Horning Nina Horning 6'5" | OH Lake Orion | 2023 State #50 Nation MI graduating. She led the team in kills the last four years. Miller is a player that can see an increased role. Miller missed part of the 2023 season with an injury, but she tallied 108 kills over 83 sets and hit .379 for the Dragons. The 6’3” Miller also led Lake Orion in blocks. As she grows in confidence, she could develop into a dominant middle.
Avery Powers Avery Powers 6'0" | MB Coopersville | 2025 State MI , MB Coopersville
Powers was a great part of a long and athletic Coopersville front line in 2022. With her teammates Emily May Emily May 6'1" | OH Coopersville | 2023 State MI and Hayley Wegener Hayley Wegener 5'11" | S Coopersville | 2023 State MI graduating, Powers is going to have to be the go-to player in 2023. Powers already has the length and athleticism to be an elite middle. Coopersville is a program that has produced some dominant middles and Powers seems to be the next in line.
Molly Reck Molly Reck 5'10" | OH Northville | 2025 State MI , OH & Mallory Reck Mallory Reck 5'10" | RS Northville | 2025 State MI , RS Northville
Northville was a D1 finalist in 2022, but has some big hitters to replace. Both Molly Reck Molly Reck 5'10" | OH Northville | 2025 State MI and Mallory Reck Mallory Reck 5'10" | RS Northville | 2025 State MI can help fill that void. Each had a role in the lineup for the Mustangs and they combined for over 300 kills. The Recks have been a big part of the Legacy club program as well, pushing themselves against the best in the country. That experience should help both step into larger roles for Northville in 2023.
Cali Stevons Cali Stevons 5'6" | S Dewitt | 2025 State MI , S DeWitt
DeWitt graduates its setter and leading hitter, so the Panthers will need some leadership help. Stevons is a capable setter that should be ready and able to take over the setter position in the fall. Stevons is a good communicator and a scrappy player. She sets a smooth ball and also is a force from the service line.
