Our qualifier retrospective series has already covered outside hitters, middle blockers, and defensive specialists from this star-studded 2025 group. With only one position left to cover, we might as well cover all our bases. This is a stacked position, too, so there’s no way we could miss this.
Bring on Nebraska’s 2025 setters.
When Premier 16 Gold snagged its long-awaited Open bid at NLQ, we brieftly discussed Solomon’s expanding role as the team’s primary setter. Solomon is embracing an all-around role that allows her blocking and aggressive attacks to flourish at the net. This is a pivotal inflection point as Solomon looks ahead to Nationals before also having a chance to defend a state title with Papio South.
Nelsen has been a must-see athlete this year after she became a new addition to the Premier Nebraska gym. She’s still playing up an age group, so nothing has changed there. The Millard North standout has such a stellar command of the setter spot and can push the ball against the grain with great accuracy. Those skills will rise to the forefront as 17 Red competes in late-season venues this spring.
This is yet another example of the Wahoo-VCN pipeline that we’ve previously mentioned in this series. Waido calls the shots for 16 Black’s offense and has a knack for keeping hitters in rhythm on just about any pass. It’s a safe bet that Waido will pick up her stat-stuffing ways this fall when the Warriors return to the court.
Gaughen helps round out the strong contingent of 2025s who are playing up a year with Premier 17 Silver. During the team’s runner-up effort at Show Me, Gaughen was an indispensable leader as a backcourt setter. But, of course, this was just a continuation of Gaughen’s fall campaign with North Bend Central, a team that was almost unstoppable throughout most of 2022.
There’s a lot of credit to go around for Banzai VBC 16 Select’s extraordinary results this season. Craven is one of those that deserves a stock-riser nod. She has proven to be a reliable setter whether she’s playing all the way around or just in the backcourt. Having so many clubs represented in this feature is a good omen for Nebraska’s Class of 2025 as a whole.
Fast was one of the earliest additions to our 2025 database, and a lot of that had to do with her immediate impact with the Elkhorn program. But now Fast’s club accomplishments are coming into focus with 16 Navy showing flashes of brilliance this year. Fast’s willingness to mix tempos and deliver risky sets has gone a long way toward making this breakout season happen.
Hill is still a prominent stock riser in this age group, and it all started with a standout performance at our Prep Dig Showcase to close out 2022. Since then, Hill has shown her excellent touch in some big club venues with Premier 16 Red. Expect things to go full circle for Hill when she competes with Millard North on the prep side.
Meyer has long been a leader in the Nebraska Elite gym, and she accomplishes this in several different ways. This setter’s vocal on-court presence ensures that the 16 Maverick attackers are on the same page and run all the designed routes. Moreover, Meyer’s consistent tempo and location allow these hitters to swing while in rhythm. Once again, this Elkhorn North athlete is paving the way among Nebraska’s top 2025 setters.
Highlights
Denker has evolved into the ultimate utility player for Nebraska Elite 16 Koa. She has a background as a defensive specialist but has recently been piling up highlight moments as a setter. No matter the position, Denker finds a way to make an impact and will continue to do so with Fremont this fall.
