Teams from Texas are all ramping up in order to bring their best game in the most important moment of the season and even those that won’t make the trip to Chicago are also in their best form after months of practice and competing together.
This past weekend, we followed one of the tournaments that were going on in the Houston area, the Skyline Classic #10, held at the popular Houston Skyline Volleyball Club. We were following the 17 Girls Division, which had nine teams from the region in action, and, after bringing our positional reports over the week, it’s time we reveal our All-Tournament team selection.
TX Legacy 17 Elite’s talented setter stood above the competition once again with her solid and intelligent game. Blaine’s technical skills were on full display during the day and her calm and intelligence with her ball distribution made of her team a very difficult one to stop. Blaine was always precise, kept all her hitters involved and made excellent choices in big moments of matches. She also contributed a lot with her serving, having long runs from the service line, and played very good defense.

Rio was one of the main scorers of her H Skyline 17 White team. The right side hitter was extremely effective when in system and her length and firepower were often too much for opposing blockers and defenders who tried to stop her. Rio also displayed a high volleyball IQ, scoring off of tips when sets weren’t as accurate or too tight. Her blocking was also a factor as she used her long arms very well to take up space at the net.

An all-around outside hitter, Davis shone with TX Legacy 17 Elite another time in the season. Very explosive and technical, she mixed things up extremely well at the net, scoring in a variety of ways and with great consistency. Her play often dictates how well her team performs and she was in absolute great form on Saturday, helping TX Legacy 17 Elite triumph in the division. Davis was also very solid with her passing and made some strong plays on defense.

McKee didn’t feel the pressure of playing one age group up and took up big scoring duties with W Revolution 17 Premier. Very long, she got off the floor really well and wasn’t much challenged by opposing blockers at the net, scoring with power and displaying a very diverse offensive game, which contained excellent range and power, but also a solid shot selection. McKee also proved to be a strong blocker, putting up a big block in front of opposing hitters and shutting them down.

TX Legacy 17 Elite had an interesting rotation between its three middles, but Ellis was probably the most effective among them, getting strong production at the net. A very active and productive blocker, she was reading the game very well and moving to the pins to shut opponents down. Ellis also had a strong offensive performance, hitting different sets at a high rate during the day and providing her team with a strong scoring option through the middle.
Avery Sims

Sims had some good performances with her W Revolution 17 Adidas team. Very long, she dominated the net, scoring with consistency and doing some good work with her blocking. Sims was set quite often in the middle and used her high contact point to overcome opposing blockers and put the ball down – she fully stretched her arm every time she went up to swing, further expanding her reach. Sims also made her presence felt at the net with her blocking, displaying good mobility and instincts.
Kylie Murphy
Kylie Murphy
There were some really impressive liberos in action on Saturday, but Murphy stole the show with her W Revolution 17 Adidas team. She was really solid with her backcourt duties, showing great efficiency with her passing and making big plays on defense. The left-handed Murphy also made a big impact from the service line, firing several aces and consistently getting opponents out-of-system. The libero also did a very good when covering her hitters and setting in transition plays.
