The 2026 middles were hungry to make the momentum-changing block and hammer down kills. Here are several that did excellent work for their squads when it counted at the PSR Regional Championships..
DePiano plays in control and with balance, she is fundamentally sound for a young middle and does not make an overabundance of mistakes. She has solid footwork patterns to attack behind and in front of her setter and takes a healthy swing that will pin ball off of the block. DePiano uses good eye work to anticipate the play across the net when she is blocking. She will commit hard to a side if the play is inevitably headed that way. Her high volleyball IQ and attentiveness carry over offensively, where she is able to see the block and attack off or around the defenders.
DuBois can play any position across the front row, and that versatility has earned her time for Sudden Impact this season. The Meadowdale middle has the athleticism to get up in the air quickly and challenge attackers with her block. We saw most of her swings come from the right side position, DuBois has a smooth approach and will find the deep line when she the chance. When she is blocking with either of her fellow middles, they stay in sync and cover up a big chunk of the attackers options.
Highlights
Karjala can turn a ball off a middle attack in transition cross-court to the angle at the 10-foot line. Not many 15U teams have an answer for that shot. The Peninsula freshman is quick and jumps well, it’s easy to see why she is a multi-sport athlete shining on the basketball court during the winter. Dakine is comfortable running any set available for her, Karjala can drop in a soft tip over the top or rip a ball off a high “2”, and is skilled at getting the ball over in a good spot no matter the set location.
Torrell is active and dynamic in the middle, she is quick off her feet and works extremely hard moving from pin to pin. The enthusiasm she brings on each play is infectious and the freshman from Bainbridge does a super job celebrating her teammates when they make a play. Torrell is aggressive on jousts and does an excellent job cleaning up 50/50 balls with either hand.
The development of the 6’2 Puyallup middle has been impressive, Hanson is running quick sets and terminating points with an aggressive approach. Her footwork is allowing her to time up the sets from her Reality Sports team, Hanson is staying behind the ball and attacking with pace. When RSVBC is in system and sets her a high ball, her high attack point becomes difficult to stop. Hanson looks more athletic each time we have seen her play throughout the club season, her ability to close the block and press causes problems for hitters.
