There were more than 60 prospects on the court during the event held at the Texas Tornados club, coming not only from H-Town, but also from several other cities in the Lone Star State, such as Austin, San Antonio, McAllen and Corpus Christi, and it was a highly competitive, yet very fun atmosphere.
Fellow Prep Dig scout Mallori Howington, myself and the court coaches were paying attention to everything and were pleased to see many prospects standing out with their strong play. We’ll spend the next few days highlighting them and here are some names we’d like to give a shoutout:
A tall and powerful outside hitter, Koshkin was one of the most interesting offensive players in the showcase. Her contact point is very high and she had a big advantage over opposing blockers during most of the day. She also displayed a well-diversified set of shots, varying well her offensive actions. The way Koshkin uses her arms to gain more traction when she gets off the floor and how she fully stretches her right arm to swing indicate she’s been very well-trained in some of the little things that make her game so solid.
Stallworth was probably the tallest player in the gym during the showcase and that helped her stand out during the event. She was nearly unstoppable on offense, making contact with the ball at a very high point and swinging it hard, out of reach for opposing defenders. Despite her size, Stallworth also displayed good mobility on the court. She’s also very intelligent with her blocking decisions, reading the game extremely well and picking the exact right moments to go up and get in the way of opposing hitters.
Highlights
Ebert was one of the standouts among the liberos for her very efficient play. She has excellent ball control and very rarely made a defensive action that ended as a mistake or was even remotely inaccurate. A very tall libero, she was also impressive with her excellent defensive range, covering a huge area on the court and helping out her teammates when needed. Another thing that increased Ebert’s efficiency was her attention to detail as she was always right where she was supposed to be in every play, which helped her make several saves when covering her hitters.
Collier displayed some good setting hands during the events, using her hitters with great intelligence and delivering accurate balls for them to swing. The playmaker also did well on defense, showing great effort and talent to keep the ball off the floor in her right back position. Collier proved to be an excellent leader too, remaining calm and confident on the court and communicating very well with the players around her, as well as supporting them when she was waiting to get on the court during a drill.
Wright displayed tremendous firepower at the net, swinging with power and precision all day. She has great efficiency from the left and the right and was rightfully the player that would most often get on the ball to end a rally. Her offense was very complete, combining power, length and precision, and her efficiency rate was highly impressive. Wright also displayed a solid game on the backcourt, doing well with her passing and defense.
