When I started at Prep Dig, this group wasn’t even in high school yet. Now, they’re starting to lead Nebraska’s prep scene as the state’s veteran leaders.
To start our breakdown of what the 2024s could bring this fall, it only feels right to look back at the final club event of the season. USAV Nationals showcased many of Nebraska’s surging 2024s, and we’re ready to spotlight a few of them here.
Watch for these rising seniors who just capped off the club season with a strong Chicago showing.
Glaser has been a prominent figure at Papillion-La Vista since she was a freshman. She made an instant impression as an outside hitter who could adapt to a variety of roles and still succeed. That strength has been bolstered through her work with Premier 17 Black, which wrapped up its season in GJNC’s 17 National division. Glaser played opposite through much of her time with the team, leaving us wonder what her senior season has in store with the Monarchs.
Booth might have some unfinished business at Elkhorn North. After coming up just short of a state championship last fall, the UNI commit returned to Premier Nebraska and helped the 17s clinch another Open bid. Tough injury luck and lineup shuffles were a big storyline for 17 Gold, but Booth stayed steady throughout. Her last season with the Wolves should be one to remember.
Nebraska ONE 17 Black put together an impressive late-season charge that punctuated with a Top 10 finish in GJNC’s 17 Freedom division. Rice has loomed large throughout that journey as a do-everything ball control specialist who does her best work in the libero jersey. Whatever role we see from the savvy senior at Waverly this fall, Rice is sure to rack up stats in her swan song season.
This year’s club season has given us an extended look at Chesley’s on-court impact. She’s an aggressive setter who is not afraid to push the ball from pin to pin with serious pace. Bold setting has given 17 Black’s hitters some favorable one-on-one opportunities throughout the season, helping the team reach its bid-earning milestone. Chesley will now recalibrate her focus toward another fall season with Lincoln Pius X.
Highlights
Briganti is poised for a big breakout season with the aforementioned Elkhorn North. This imposing middle blocker was part of Club Legacy 17 Alpha’s impressive march to the final Gold bracket in 17 Patriot. The Wolves will now lean heavily on its stacked senior class with Briganti hoping to factor into the team’s frontcourt equation.
Here’s another Club Legacy 17 Alpha athlete who just finished up a fruitful club season. Snyder was a key terminator for 17 Alpha throughout qualifiers, regional events, and all the way to the final whistle in Chicago. She put up big numbers as a junior with Omaha Concordia, and we can expect an even further uptick in production this fall. And, aside from Snyder’s ability to score, she brings six-rotation expertise that could form the foundation of Concordia’s defense.
Premier 17 Red’s backcourt wealth was a big reason why the team clawed its way to a bid the GPR Bid Tournament. Guthard was a frequent catalyst to that stellar defense as the team’s lockdown libero during the 2023 season. Not only does Guthard bring all the technical skills needed to produce quality first contacts, but her communication along the end line always kept 17 Red’s defense organized. As we turn our attention to the fall, expect Norris to boast the same unflappable ball control we’re used to seeing.
Why not make it a Norris DS duo from 17 Red? Piening held down a pivotal defensive role for Premier 17 Red this year as she gave backcourt relief to a variety of pin hitters. On the high school side, Piening has been a common sight in the Norris back row ever since her prep career began. We’ll see more of the same in 2024 as Piening and Norris look to capture that elusive Class B championship.
