Continue ReadingFt. Lauderdale, Florida will play host to the 2023 USA All-Star Championships. Sanctioned by USA Volleyball, the 40 regions of USAV produce the event, and its hosted this year by the Florida Region. The USAV moved to the National Team Development Program in 2021, and the regions collectively chose to continue developing elite athletes within each region. Each region can choose to host an NTDP (formerly HP) program, with the culminating event being the All-Star Championship Tournament held each July. The two regions in Washington, Puget Sound and Evergreen each chose teams based on an initial tryout followed by a selection camp.
The USA All-Star Championships allow athletes to play under international rule sets, with limited substitutions, a best 3 out of 5 matches, and an international ball, the Molten Flistatec. The Puget Sound Region will send four teams total, two in the Girl’s Championship and two in the Boy’s Championship. Our first preview is an overview of the PSR All-Stars U17 Youth National team, which includes athletes born in 2006 and 2007. This means players from multiple f=grad years may be playing together, and some 2024 grads may have been unable to play due to a 2005 birthdate. Matchups on day one and two of the four-day championship include region all-star teams from the Gulf Coast(Gulf region of Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida), Great Lakes (Illinois), Great Plains (Nebraska), and Ohio Valley (Ohio, West Virginia, and Western Pennsylvania).
Alo is a punishing right-side attacker from the Dakine 15 Surf team. She gets a deep approach and will adjust her position relative to the setter to make sure she is not too tight. Alo finds the deep cross-court corner consistently with her swings.

Burchak is the sort of versatile player that you need at a four-day international rules competition. She has a lefty hammer as an opposite, can step in and set, and plays solid defense in the back row. Burchak is a veteran of the All-Star program, playing with the 17U team in Tulsa last season.

IMG has had several sport academies for several years, a total immersion where athletes train and study at IMG during their high school years. This is a popular system overseas, with INSEP in Paris, France as an example. Many national team and professional athletes from France start at INSEP at 14 or 15 years old., spending 9 months of the year at the National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance. Joffe is a big time 6″1 MB, and she will be part of the first ever IMG Volleyball Academy class.
