It could be their ability to set the second ball, cover their attackers, or maybe pass every free ball with accuracy and great tempo. The group we cover here has shown the talent and fire to play the position at a high level.
Sanchez had an outstanding club season for Oregon Juniors, and the Camas sophomore will be a part of an excellent Papermaker defense this fall. Her length allows her to reach tips and off-speed shots in the corners and along the net, Sanchez is versatile enough to take a solid swing if needed as well.
Part of a strong Curtis High School program, and an excellent player indoor and on the beach for Dakine, Duong has excellent footwork in serve receive, she reads the server well and can drop step or shuffle to get herself into a great position. This was her second year in a row being a part of the PSR All-Star team, helping the group to a third place finish this year.
Sidhu was described to us by one observer as a “digging machine”, she definitely lived up to that when we watched her play this season for Sudden Impact. She will keep the digging going this fall for the Bear Creek school in the Emerald Sound Conference, and the Grizzlies have a solid group of returners. Sidhu easily manipulates her platform to angle her pass accurately to her setter, she is a player to watch as her career continues.

Livingston was the winner of the Candis Carter Inspirational Award for the outstanding U15 defender at the Emerald City Classic. She reads her own blockers and the opposing hitters well, and is seemingly always in the right position to make a play on the ball. She is a part of a young but quickly rising program at Ridgeline High School in Liberty Lake. The Falcons notched big time upsets last fall and have quickly become a part of the top half of the 3A/4A Greater Spokane League.

Nguyen is a smooth operator at the Libero position, and her consistency passing the ball in serve receive is outstanding. The sophomore played up with the Dakine 17 team this season and excels in the sand for Dakine as well. She has been training with the USA NTDP in both indoor and beach, her game is polished defensively and she shows the ability to make the great one handed dig to save her team a point.
Bellerive is a setter as well and will even take a swing when it’s needed. At the setter spot, she is always playing defense first, and when she has the libero jersey on she shines extra bright. Her quick feet and fast reactions can keep the ball off the floor, and she has setter skills when she steps into passing the second ball as a libero. The 5’6″ sophomore may have to play multiple positions for Emerald Ridge this fall, Bellerive will rack up numbers defensively no matter where she is at on the court.

Durham impressed all season leading from the back row for her Oly Reign team. Her communication on the court helped the team to several impressive wins, and her hustle to get to tips and shots deep in the court kept her squad in matches no matter the opponent. Her second ball passing from her platform to the pins is accurate, and she does not give up on any ball that might have a chance to hit the floor.
