Here are the uncommitted 2024s that caught our eye at the 2023 Oregon Stock Up Showcase.
Arellano is a talented setter with a nice touch on the ball and consistent, solid placement with each set. On Saturday, Arellano ran her offense well during the scrimmages, making adjustments on her sets for her varying attackers and moving the ball around effortlessly.
Highlights
Casey, who set for the NPJ Portland 17 National team this past season, came to the showcase with energy and passion. With a soft touch on the ball and quick footwork, Casey set solidly and competed well during the event.
Farrell is a solid setter, and it was fun to see her do what she does best during the showcase. Farrell has a soft touch on the ball and a quick, seamless release, placing each set in a great position for her attackers. She is quick and super athletic, too.
Highlights
Hitting from the middle, Fix was banging balls on Saturday and quickly stood out as an impressive attacker. Fix’s approach is explosive and her arm swing is fast, two traits that really helped her put the ball away consistently during the showcase.
Gamby was a fun player to watch during the showcase. While she has great hands and can set impressively, she can also jump high and has a hammer of an arm. During the showcase, Gamby was constantly cheering on and hyping up other athletes, a sign of an excellent teammate and all-around athlete.
Highlights
McCoy impressed right off the bat on Saturday. With great hands, a light touch on the ball, and solid footwork, McCoy was setting dimes left and right, moving the ball around the court seamlessly. McCoy has improved so much over this past club season, and it will be exciting to see how her senior year goes.
McDonald made setting look effortless during the showcase. Not only does she place the ball well while setting, but she can also rip a ball from the right side and is a versatile player. From the baseline, McDonald’s jump float serve also proved deadly on Saturday.
Pernsteiner was an offensive weapon during the showcase, using her bouncy, quick arm and explosive approach to put the ball away consistently. She made smart adjustments to the ball throughout the event. Pernsteiner is also big at the net and puts up an intimidating block.
Roms shone from the back row during the showcase. The defensive specialist was on fire, playing steadily on serve receive and making some incredible defensive saves during the scrimmages. Her energy and competitiveness were infectious, too.
