Some hit with a heavy arm and some look really intimidating just standing at the net. Then there are the smaller but smart and scrappy hitters that just don’t quit. Here are some that really stood out this past weekend.
I saw Faris hit from just about every area on the net and no matter where she was, she was scoring points. She is a seriously explosive athlete and smooth operator. Faris has all the shots in her bag of tricks to go along with her jumping ability. She makes scoring look effortless.
Audrey Haugen and Norah Rechtzigel Norah Rechtzigel 5'11" | MB Kenyon-Wanamingo | 2024 State MN – Kenyon-Wanamingo
These two middles share a very aggressive style of play. Haugen caught my eye when she really got ahold of a ball and just about put it through the floor. Meanwhile, I saw Rechtzigel with a consistent aggressive style of play at the net and show off her ability to work the angles off the block really well. They do a nice job getting on top of the ball and working a number of different areas of the court with their merciless attack.
Lilli Rechichi Lilli Rechichi 5'11" | MB Ely | 2025 State MN and Audrey Kallberg Audrey Kallberg MB Ely | 2027 MN – Ely
These two have different qualities that I really like. Rechichi is a big go-to swing and leader for Ely. Kallberg is a young up-and-coming attacker running slides and getting big points running different routes. Their differences made Ely unpredictable and allowed them to pick apart the defense. They were definitely the driving force for this squad.
Ava Hahn
Ava Hahn
Hahn was taking a huge swing whether she was in the back row or front row. She is super explosive and crazy effective against any size blocker. Cleveland has a solid first contact with Savannah Meyer Savannah Meyer 5’6″ | DS/L Cleveland | 2025 State MN and an athletic setter, Greta Hahn. She always seems to know how to find Ava Hahn and give her something to terminate.
Brielle Janssen Brielle Janssen 6'1" | MB Maccray | 2026 State MN and Emma Thein Emma Thein 6'0" | RS MACCRAY | 2026 State MN – MACCRAY
MACCRAY has got a really bright future with attackers like Janssen and Thein. They both have a really high contact point to make them very effective attackers and blockers. Janssen not only runs a great slide route but she also plays all six rotations which you don’t often see middles do. Thein approaches and flies high on the right pin as well as puts up a huge block. They are a tremendous 1-2 combo for their super athletic setter, Annie Bourne Annie Bourne 5'6" | S MACCRAY | 2024 State MN , to utilize.
Danica Martin Danica Martin 5'11" | MB Mayer Lutheran | 2024 State MN , Hallie Hunter, and Courtney Tuttle – Mayer Lutheran
Setter, Izabelle Keaveny Izabelle Keaveny 5'9" | S Mayer Lutheran | 2026 State MN has a number of options for Mayer Lutheran. Martin connects really well Keaveny and they make magic happen. Hunter is a big blocking defender for Mayer Lutheran and knows how to pull attention on offense. Tuttle has a great high finish and utilizes a number of great shots to score. She is super athletic and explosive at the net.
Wollum was really impressive last weekend. She is auper athletic and smart with her shot selection. Wollum takes a tenacious approach and swings with a killer instinct. She is a high flyer with no fear against a big block and she owns a violent arm swing. Wollum is smart and can use high hands, hit a sharp angle or just take an aggressive rip.
Highlights
Nelson can take a dynamic swing and really smart placement with her attack. When she is given the opportunity to score she can terminate. RTR has some really great athletes around Nelson including outside hitter, Abigail Carr Abigail Carr 5’10” | OH Russell-Tyler-Ruthton | 2024 State MN , and setter, Gabrielle Borresen Gabrielle Borresen S Russell-Tyler-Thornton | 2024 State MN . These three work really well together to strategize and work every corner of the opponents court.
Alyssa Britton
Alyssa Britton
Britton did a great job working the angles and scoring a lot of points for Fillmore. She is a scoring machine that is hard to stop when she is on fire. Britton was a key piece to Fillmore’s 8th place finish last weekend. When she connects it just sounhds different because of her heavy arm.
Marley Mitchell
Marley Mitchell
Mitchell is really athletic and fun to watch. She puts up a big block on the right side and does a great job taking up a lot of space on defense. I really liked the swings she was taking out of the right back and I would have loved to see her swing more from the pins. Mitchell has great hand contact and power in her swing. She is highly efficient in all six rotations.
