Prep Dig will be following the action closely and every match I get to attend will be followed with a Top Performers Report, highlighting the prospects who stood out on the court, and a photo gallery.
On Tuesday, October 10, I was at a Katy ISD district match between the Jordan Warriors and the Cinco Ranch Cougars.
Cinco Ranch remained undefeated in district play and got their 13th victory in the region with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-14) win to take their season win record to 29-5. The Warriors, who are strong in the fight for a playoff spot, now have an 8-4 win record in district play and are at 25-12 for the season.
Top Performers
Cinco Ranch’s all-around outside hitter had an excellent performance against Jordan, contributing in every area of the game and remaining impressively steady throughout the match. Loo got several of Jordan’s serves and handled the vast majority of them extremely well, keeping the team in system and allowing setter Kassidy O’Brien Kassidy O’Brien 5’10” | S Cinco Ranch | 2025 State #19 Nation TX to run the offense as she wished. Much of Loo’s stability comes from her calm demeanor on the court as she never looks stressed or fazed by pressure. The outside hitter was also very strong offensively, scoring in difficult plays and keeping her errors very low, ending the match with eight kills.

Martinez provided great firepower for Cinco Ranch, swinging with power and efficiency during the entire match to lead the team with 12 kills. Gabi was set on the left, the right and even the back row and consistently put the ball down, on several occasions with bounces. She’s become the Cougars’ main scoring option this season and that seems to have elevated her game even further. Martinez was also solid with her passing and defense (getting ten digs) and had some success with serving on some occasions as well.
Nicole Teerman
Nicole Teerman
Teerman had a solid game in the middle and displayed great progress in the position from when I last watched her, a couple of months ago – she typically plays outside hitter or right side for her club team Katy United. She’s learned how to use her length very quickly and has been playing with a much higher level of attention at the net, which allowed her to have a solid blocking performance and to deal well with overpasses and tight sets. She also contributed to the team’s scoring efforts, notching six kills.
Emily Killam

Both of Cinco’s middles had prominent roles in the team’s victory, but in different ways. If Teerman stood out with her offense, Killam was more important defensively, leading the team with seven blocks and getting involved in the stops that ended sets one and two. The senior had no trouble putting the ball down either, displaying a very complete offensive game, that helped her get four kills. It was easy to see that her game was flowing and how confident she was because she would ask for the ball in every single transition play.
Ava Ribakovs
Ava Ribakovs
A player with great versatility, Ribakovs was a key cog in Jordan’s playing system. A lefty, she added a lot of firepower to the team hitting on the right and leading their offense with 11 kills, using her left and explosiveness extremely well. Ribakovs also had a big role in the Warriors’ serve-receive system, making part of their passing efforts in almost every rotation. She had good efficiency with her passing and also had some strong defensive plays.
O’Shay’s offensive versatility was very important for Jordan as the team had its best moments in the match when she got going. The junior spent time in each of the three positions at the net and did a good job in all of them, showing how much her game has improved lately. She continues to be excellent at hitting the slide set and also displayed great efficiency from the left and the right, ending the match with six kills. O’Shay stepped up in difficult moments for the Warriors and also had a good blocking performance.
Highlights
The sophomore libero had a busy night, being targeted by several of Cinco Ranch’s tough serves and did a fine job, not making many errors and passing most balls in good spots for her setter to work with. Nicholas was also very active on the backcourt, especially in the first two sets, getting 11 digs during the match. She had some good serving runs too and was very precise and reliable when she had to set in transition.
