As I watched Charlie Fuerbringer Charlie Fuerbringer 5’11” | S Mira Costa | 2024 State #2 Nation CA take the court, I couldn’t help but think of the timeless line from the movie “Moneyball”: “It’s hard not to be romantic about”…volleyball. Her precise and disciplined play at the setter position was a sight to behold. I marveled at Charlie’s quick visual block checks before each set, which displayed her commitment to her craft. Her setter dump, always finding the floor, had a poetic quality to it. And when I saw her execute the quick pipe set repeatdly, Charlie made it look effortlessly beautiful. Her jump serves glided across the net with an elegant ease that put her opponents on the defensive. I also admired her discipline on defense, and her one-handed set connections with hitters left me in awe.
At just a sophomore, Simone Roslon Simone Roslon 5’11” | OH Mira Costa | 2026 CA showcased remarkable composure and talent. Her ability to find the seam on her hits and angle the ball with precision was a true testament to her skill. Simone is a heavy hitter powering through the block. Her jump serve was nothing short of beautiful. What truly stood out was her ability to make her approach and execution look just as flawless on out-of-system sets, even when the circumstances weren’t ideal.
Highlights
Audrey Flanagan didn’t play like a sophomore; she played like a seasoned veteran. Having started her volleyball journey at the tender age of 8, she displayed a level of maturity and talent that belied her age. Her approach flight and snap wrist talent were genuinely impressive. Her sharp angle snaps were nothing short of artful, and she was able to execute them consistently from various set positions. Audrey also possessed the ability to hit the line with power, and her quick adjustments with her last two steps were a testament to her exceptional skills.
Chloe Hynes possessed the versatility that made her a true asset on the court. Her ability to hit both line and angle was a challenge for any opposing block. Chloe swung fast and hard, making her attacks a force to be reckoned with. Her backrow attack speed was nothing short of amazing, adding yet another dimension to her already impressive repertoire.
Highlights
Taylor Deckert was an automatic force on defense. Watching her play, it almost felt like there was a magnetic attraction between the ball and her platform. She scooped up every ball with grace, and her uncanny ability to track the ball on defense left me in wonderment. Taylor is a vital link on the team, delivering the ball to Charlie and proving why opponents should think twice before serving her.
