Here are a few athletes I am excited to see showcase their skills after their respective fall seasons and ones to keep an eye on for the upcoming club season. There are always a few players who make a name for themselves and emerge from the Expo and their stock continues to rise!
Class of 2026 5’8” Outside Hitter Jalyn Branson Jalyn Branson 5'8" | OH Shelton | 2026 State NE out of Shelton, NE: Jalyn was so fun to watch last year at the Expo as a breakout freshman. Branson helped lead her 23-10 Bulldogs to the Nebraska State Tournament a few weeks back and lost in the quarterfinals to a talented State Runner-Up Cambridge squad. The sophomore led the Bulldogs in many statistical categories this past season. She hammered away 463 kills, averaging 5.3 kills a set, 300 digs and chipped in 44 ace serves. She is a complete player in all facets of the game. Branson is strong in transition and has a fast, powerful arm swing. Finding the open floor with a roll shot or hammering the line, Branson has a variety of shots. Looking forward to watching her on Saturday and her stock rise in her young career!
Class of 2025 5’9” Outside Hitter Courtney Carlstrom Courtney Carlstrom 5'9" | RS High Plains Community | 2025 State NE from High Plains Community. Courtney is a jack-of-all-trades type player. She hits, digs, and sets at a high level. The junior hammered 252 kills, aced 44 serves, and had 336 digs for the Storm this past season. Her team relies on her to do lots of different things on the court. She sets the out-of-system ball well and has great hands. Her strength is her floor defense and pursuit of balls. Another strength is her ability to transition and take good shots from the pin. She played on a successful South Central Team last club season and will continue to improve. Excited to see how she stacks up at the Expo!
Class of 2025 5’6” Libero Ruby Goes Ruby Goes 5'6" | DS/L Freeman | 2025 State NE out of Freeman is another one to keep tabs on. The junior has racked up a career total of 1023 digs, with 472 coming this past fall. Goes chipped in 45 ace serves for the 24-6 Falcons as well. Steady and calm in the back row, Goes does a nice job reading hitters and bettering the ball to help her team side out. She has nice hands and does a great job of moving laterally. One thing that good liberos do as well is cover their hitters and she does a great job of following up her pass to the hitters on either pin or middle. Looking forward to watching her more in LaVista!
5’10” Class of 2026 Outside Hitter Rallie Boyer took a huge leap from her freshman year to her sophomore year going from 10 kills to 149 for the Lakeview ViQueens. Boyer had 302 digs this past fall and is at 503 for her young career already. She also had 36 aces as well. Rallie does a nice job of getting behind the ball and taking smart shots or tooling off the block. She is not afraid to place it on the line or a nice short roll shot over the block. Keep tabs on her as she continues to improve her craft!
5’7” Class of 2025 Outside Hitter Jamison Badje was a well-rounded player for the 27-5 Douglas County West Falcons this past fall. The junior was one shy of 200 kills and had 49 ace serves. She tallied 169 digs as well. Badje is springy on the outside pin with a quick arm swing. She plays bigger than 5’7”. It will be fun to see her against other pin hitters this upcoming weekend.
These are just a few athletes I am looking forward to watching and analyzing in LaVista on Saturday! Stay tuned for some more sneak peeks on other players!
