A First Look at the Updated 2024 Rankings

The club season is just starting up before a quick Christmas break, then after New Year's it's full speed ahead until July- for some! The class of 2024 will end before that for most- with some teams wrapping up in late April or early May, and a few teams may make it to the Memorial Day weekend tournaments. It's the last ride for the seniors, and many players may still be looking to lock in a spot to play for next season. Our rankings updates start with this class of players who started their freshman year mostly at home, and that short spring season of high school volleyball with no state championship. Everyone should enjoy the ride as the 2024 class has one last club season!

For an in-depth look at how rankings are put together- check out this link on "how we rank". https://prepdig.com/how-we-rank/#purpose-standards. The page will explain the why and the how, with examples of exactly what Prep Dig scouts look for when ranking prospects. Players are inevitably missed, please know that every time an updated ranking comes out we strive to add new players that we have seen play and deserve to make the list. We are fortunate in Washington to have a positive group of parents, players, and coaches in the volleyball community who are happy to share feedback on players with us at Prep Dig Washington. Thank you to all the folks who have been in touch, you can always email me at jesseetter12@gmail.com with feedback, especially if there is a player we should be watching. That email is also an excellent place for coaches and club directors to send rosters and schedules. It's not always easy to track those down early in the season with everyone updating at different times on their websites.

THE TOP 10: Change is hard!

Our 2024 rankings for the top 10 players remain virtually unchanged. Any movement there is a challenge, and [player_tooltip player_id='222799' first='Quincy' last='Moran'] moving up from 11 to 8 is the most notable Top 10 change. Players earn a move up in the rankings, rather than a move down. Moran is a long 6-foot outside hitter who took her game to another level this season, leading 4A North Creek to a second-place finish at state while capturing 4A State Player of the Year and MVP of her league. She is a top-notch scorer from the pin and the pipe and competes hard in all six rotations. Moran is committed to Eastern Washington, and the Eagles are building momentum behind an excellent coaching staff led by Jon Haruguchi and assisted by Grayson Dubose and Taylor Muff. Moran is the type of recruit EWU needs: from the Pacific Northwest, talented, tough, and ready to get after the teams and conferences that missed out on her. It's possible to create a consistent winning program in Cheney with the right mix of coaching and the players who want to be there and grind it out, Moran is a terrific step in that direction.

The Right Fit At Every Level.

Players up and down the rankings are choosing schools and programs that work for them, and not always looking to make the big splash at the highest level possible. Is it better to be at the top 10 NAIA or Division 2 or be Division 1 at a school that's sporting a 250 RPI with less than 500 fans in the stands? Having a solid GPA opens up the doors across the country and locally at an incredible amount of solid programs at awesome schools. We love the choices players are making- here are just a few that stick out.

It's not always the level or size of the school where you play that determines a ranking- players are smart to choose a program that fits them best.

[player_tooltip player_id='250021' first='Jule' last='Whitley'] and [player_tooltip player_id='231697' first='Ava' last='Semprimoznik']- Eastern Oregon. The Mounties just finished in the NAIA National Semi-Finals, and are signing two winning players from Kamiakin and Freeman respectively. Whitley ranks #71 overall and is 6'1, physical, and vocal on the court. Semprimoznik just finished leading the Scotties to 2nd place overall in the 1A state tournament and is a fearless setter and server, ranked #37 overall. The winning ways for Eastern Oregon in the Cascade Conference look to be in good hands.

[player_tooltip player_id='251586' first='Grace' last='Rice'] and [player_tooltip player_id='252567' first='Ashley' last='Shumate']- Biola. The Biola Eagles in the Division 2 Pac West Conference are bringing in two top 20 players in the rankings from Lynden. 6-foot-3 outsides and dynamic 5-1 setters don't just come along all the time, Biola scored both out of the town in Northwestern Washington. Rice is right in the mix with other top 5 setters in the state, with soft hands, athleticism, and size to compete at the net. Shumate is a terminal pin hitter who has the length and leverage to hammer sharp angle and down the line to rack up kills.

Excellent Players Who Will Make a Program Better.

There are players up and down the ranking that programs will be lucky to have, from a talent and character standpoint. Here is a sampling from throughout the rankings. If you are listed here and have committed, drop an email to jesseetter12@gmail.com and let us know!

[player_tooltip player_id='230156' first='Grace' last='Wesenburg']- OH Ranked 16 Overall. Emerald Ridge star is a six-rotation force with good size and a heavy swing.

[player_tooltip player_id='259072' first='Macey' last='Mccoy']- S: Ranked 43 Overall. Winning player from Columbia River with excellent size and can set a tempo-style offense with excellent location.

[player_tooltip player_id='493150' first='Emry' last='Claeys']-OH: Ranked 70 Overall. 6'1 with a hammer swing- one of the top players in Whatcom County.

[player_tooltip player_id='343570' first='Kate' last='Schneider']- RS/OH: Ranked 74 Overall. Freeman attacker can play the pins, attack off one foot, and is a springy athlete.

[player_tooltip player_id='259110' first='Makena' last='Gamby']- DS/L: Ranked 54 Overall. Mountain View setter plays defense like a libero and can do it all on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='486971' first='Anna' last='Clara Dantas']- MB/OH: Ranked 130 Overall. Two-year team captain and do-it-all all-player, Honorable Mention All Wesco honors.

[player_tooltip player_id='259049' first='Keira' last='Leingang']- RS: Ranked 125 Overall. 6'1 Lefty from Bellarmine Prep is a multi-sport athlete with a big upside.

The Final Countdown

This update nearly brings the 2024 rankings to a close, with just one update coming for the class this spring before they move on. Looking back at our final rankings for the class of 2023, Prep Dig Washington continued to add players that made a big splash in their last year of club. Please drop a line on any commitments that happen, a player we should watch, and create or claim a free profile in the Prospect Index. Put in a picture you like, add highlight videos, edit height or position changes, and update club and school teams. See you in the gym!
