The club season is just starting up before a quick Christmas break, then after New Year’s it’s full speed ahead until July- for some! The class of 2024 will end before that for most- with some teams wrapping up in late April or early May, and a few teams may make it to the Memorial Day weekend tournaments. It’s the last ride for the seniors, and many players may still be looking to lock in a spot to play for next season. Our rankings updates start with this class of players who started their freshman year mostly at home, and that short spring season of high school volleyball with no state championship. Everyone should enjoy the ride as the 2024 class has one last club season!
For an in-depth look at how rankings are put together- check out this link on “how we rank”. https://prepdig.com/how-we-rank/#purpose-standards. The page will explain the why and the how, with examples of exactly what Prep Dig scouts look for when ranking prospects. Players are inevitably missed, please know that every time an updated ranking comes out we strive to add new players that we have seen play and deserve to make the list. We are fortunate in Washington to have a positive group of parents, players, and coaches in the volleyball community who are happy to share feedback on players with us at Prep Dig Washington. Thank you to all the folks who have been in touch, you can always email me at jesseetter12@gmail.com with feedback, especially if there is a player we should be watching. That email is also an excellent place for coaches and club directors to send rosters and schedules. It’s not always easy to track those down early in the season with everyone updating at different times on their websites.
THE TOP 10: Change is hard!
Our 2024 rankings for the top 10 players remain virtually unchanged. Any movement there is a challenge, and Quincy Moran Quincy Moran 6'0" | OH North Creek | 2024 State WA moving up from 11 to 8 is the most notable Top 10 change. Players earn a move up in the rankings, rather than a move down. Moran is a long 6-foot outside hitter who took her game to another level this season, leading 4A North Creek to a second-place finish at state while capturing 4A State Player of the Year and MVP of her league. She is a top-notch scorer from the pin and the pipe and competes hard in all six rotations. Moran is committed to Eastern Washington, and the Eagles are building momentum behind an excellent coaching staff led by Jon Haruguchi and assisted by Grayson Dubose and Taylor Muff. Moran is the type of recruit EWU needs: from the Pacific Northwest, talented, tough, and ready to get after the teams and conferences that missed out on her. It’s possible to create a consistent winning program in Cheney with the right mix of coaching and the players who want to be there and grind it out, Moran is a terrific step in that direction.
The Right Fit At Every Level.
Players up and down the rankings are choosing schools and programs that work for them, and not always looking to make the big splash at the highest level possible. Is it better to be at the top 10 NAIA or Division 2 or be Division 1 at a school that’s sporting a 250 RPI with less than 500 fans in the stands? Having a solid GPA opens up the doors across the country and locally at an incredible amount of solid programs at awesome schools. We love the choices players are making- here are just a few that stick out.
It’s not always the level or size of the school where you play that determines a ranking- players are smart to choose a program that fits them best.
Jule Whitley Jule Whitley 6'1" | MB Kamiakin | 2024 State WA and Ava Semprimoznik Ava Semprimoznik 5'8" | S Freeman | 2024 State WA – Eastern Oregon. The Mounties just finished in the NAIA National Semi-Finals, and are signing two winning players from Kamiakin and Freeman respectively. Whitley ranks #71 overall and is 6’1, physical, and vocal on the court. Semprimoznik just finished leading the Scotties to 2nd place overall in the 1A state tournament and is a fearless setter and server, ranked #37 overall. The winning ways for Eastern Oregon in the Cascade Conference look to be in good hands.
Grace Rice Grace Rice 5'8" | S Lynden | 2024 State WA and Ashley Shumate Ashley Shumate 6'3" | OH Lynden | 2024 State WA – Biola. The Biola Eagles in the Division 2 Pac West Conference are bringing in two top 20 players in the rankings from Lynden. 6-foot-3 outsides and dynamic 5-1 setters don’t just come along all the time, Biola scored both out of the town in Northwestern Washington. Rice is right in the mix with other top 5 setters in the state, with soft hands, athleticism, and size to compete at the net. Shumate is a terminal pin hitter who has the length and leverage to hammer sharp angle and down the line to rack up kills.
