Defenders brought their best at the Washington Top 250 Expo, and the class of 2024 and 2026 are the first that we check in on. The Expo was loaded with highly ranked liberos and some that should be after watching them live. These eight players had a tremendous showing, with several receiving Prep Dig Top Performer honors!
Durham is currently ranked as the top 2026 libero by Prep Dig Washington, and coaches mentioned her top-notch communication and great angles in serve recieve at the Expo. The sophomore from River Ridge earned a Top Performer nod, and had her team’s attackers rolling in system with pinpoint passing in six-on-six play.
Highlights
Espinosa is a smooth athlete who can make plays at the net as a blocker and attacker, has a tough serve and on defense will make gutty digs on hard swings. Her athletic prowess combined with her versatility and defensive play earned her a Top Performer award from coaches in attendance.
Highlights
Duong had outstanding command and court presence, the Curtis sophomore is extremely disciplined in her positioning on defense. Her consistent passing and and ability to set a second ball with accuracy impressed coaches at the Expo.
Fong showed quick feet and a willingness to get on the floor and keep a rally alive with an emergency move for a dig. Kennedy Catholic had a strong group of players at the Expo and fong was no exception. Coaches mentioned her effort in running down deep shots in the corner.
Lassen was on our radar at The emerald City Classic last May, amd she has continued to perform at a high level. The Roosevelt sophomore was locked in, dropping dimes to her setters in six-on-six and showing terrific ball control on free balls. She delivers passes with a nice tempo, not hanging a high pass and slowing the offense down.
Highlights
Pontak played with excellent energy, and the Expo coaches noted her great attitude as well as her outstanding play in naming her a Top Performer. The sophomore from Edmonds-Woodway has super balance and stayed low defensively, making plays all over the court during the six-on-six session.
The senior standout was solid in all phases, delivering consistent passing in serve receive and handling chances in the back row with textbook technique. The 2024 prospect from Meadowdale has been steadily improving her range and ability to dig out hard shots, coaches noted how she cushioned tough swings and kept her setters in good position.
Highlights
Yoel has a terrific work rate on the court, she is always covering her hitters and never gives up on a ball. Add in her winning, upbeat attitude and you have a libero any college program would be lucky to have. The senior from Lake Washington was key in the Kangs run to the state championship match, and her steady play carried over to the Expo.
